Hey folks, due to serious issues with the rebuild of The Linn Villa, we have diggers and scaffold everywhere again and the garden isn’t safe to open to visitors.
We’re looking to try and find a weekend that works for an open day, but for now that’s all that we can manage.
I’ve lived here since 1994 and I sometimes liked to tell myself I’m practically Scottish by now. Then my phone doesn’t recognise the word ‘fannies’ and I realise I’m totally kidding myself.
Given these guys tend to face upwards they usually fill with leaves just as they’re flowering, but this one got its angles just right.
Dear Belgium. Thank you so very, very much. You will always have a place in my heart for this spanking.
A sensible American take on VAR and the rules of the game at last. American sports and rugby have taken serious steps to stopping it being intrusive and ruining their games. It’s worth paying attention to some of the things all these sports have done to make it work for them.
Here’s the best way I can explain why VAR has gone too far.
My fellow Americans will get this immediately. Europeans… bear with me.
Imagine the NFL had a computer analyzing every offensive lineman on every single snap, down to the millimeter. You wouldn’t have football anymore… you’d have a holding penalty on virtually every play.
That’s what VAR has become. Instead of correcting obvious mistakes, it’s zooming in until it can find a technical violation that nobody on the field actually saw or cared about.
Technology should fix clear errors, not manufacture them. 😎

I cannot believe we have got to the point where a ball lightly touching the tips of someone’s hair is being measured by a Snickometer in order to disallow a goal.
The ball’s trajectory and spin were not affected at all.
The offside law was created to stop goal-hanging - it was never intended to be an exact science.
It was never created so that one day artificial intelligence could measure toenails offside and use a snicko to check if someone’s touched a ball.
It was created to stop strikers from man-marking goalkeepers all game.
VAR was meant to be reserved for clear and obvious decisions.
We used to understand that football is better and more entertaining when goals are scored.
That meant that for offsides: in case of doubt, the benefit was given to the attacker while in-line was always onside.
Now we’re using 3D generated AI technology to check toes to the millimetre and extreme microphones to measure minuscule decibels with the aim of disallowing goals and ruining football as a spectacle.
Do they ever ask if we want these changes, do they market test any of it?
What an extra time awaited us for the #Portugal v #Croatia game, unfortunately we will never get to see it thanks to the madness that VAR has descended into.
Getting thoroughly bored of the “what it will take for Americans to embrace ‘soccer’” takes. NO ONE FUCKING CARES. Americans are totally welcome of course, but whether or not you guys want to join in is of no interest to anyone.
The Hibs are here, supporting @BushiriRocky One blue shirt in a sea of yellow!
The Tasmanian Border has started to catch the sun really nicely these days. There are lots of Asteraceae in there, which is a family I’d never appreciated properly before. They’re fantastic. – at Helensburgh, Scotland
Getting nice around ours. I hadn’t noticed how late that particular Magnolia is before. All the others have lost their flowers already.
We take quality control very seriously at The Linn, and can confirm that the new wall has been thoroughly inspected by the committee.
Want to know what we’ve got planned for this year? I made a wee video to tell you:

Anything useful to add, @DreamHostCare This is pretty shockingly out of order.
Email at 6pm from @DreamHost saying there was an issue with my payment, then an email at 7pm saying they'd shut down my work email due to non-payment. These are the only emails I've received on the matter. What the hell is wrong with you people?
