Derek O'Reilly lost his battle with cancer last Monday. We are hoping to get a 55th minute applause at his beloved Villa Park vs Spurs. The view is from where Derek sat in the Holte End. PLEASE SHARE #55 #RIP #UTV

Brilliant news 🙌 Aston Villa hold meeting “establishing a clear commitment beyond 2029 for the joint development of the club under the sporting leadership of Unai Emery…” #AVFC
Aston Villa held an important working meeting today to plan the club's future and lay the foundations for its long-term sporting and institutional project. The meeting brought together Nassef Sawiris, the club's Chairman and Unai Emery alongside President of Football Operations Roberto Olabe and Director of Football Operations Damián Vidagany. The discussions focused on jointly planning the club's long-term strategic direction, with positive discussions establishing a clear commitment beyond 2029 for the joint development of the club under the sporting leadership of Unai Emery based on the shared ambitions and common goal to reach excellency and keep growing during the next years. The objective is clear: to build an ambitious, competitive Aston Villa capable of taking on the biggest challenges and achievements.

Jamie Carragher has now apologised to Aston Villa for comments this week which were disrespectful but hardly actionable. He was wrong about a proud, historic club. Villa said last night they would “initiate legal action” against Carragher for what they described as his “unacceptable insults about the Club and its fans” on his Stick To Football podcast. Carragher claimed Unai Emery would “fancy” joining Manchester United. This fed Villa’s belief/fear of institutional impediments embedded in the Premier League inhibiting their ambitions. We live in a media age where views are news. Carragher is a pundit, paid to give opinions shaped by his many experiences as a player. It’s why he’s also employed by Sky Sports, which bankrolls much of football. You may not agree with some of his views expressed in the more informal, pub-vibe podland, but he’s allowed to say them, and discourse is at the heart of being a fan. That said, Carragher certainly shouldn’t be telling Villa fans objecting to his comments to “shut the f**k up” even “in jest”, a strange way of expanding an audience. “My language this week was clumsy & wrong,” Carragher has now posted on X in his apology to Villa, the owners and fans. “I can assure Villa fans it was tongue in cheek but I can understand it’s not come across that way, so apologies. Good luck today UTV!” Whether this is from pure contrition or a reaction to the threat of legal action remains to be seen. Carragher’s view on Emery deserved challenging but by Villa’s fans not by the club, which should have risen above it, and certainly not by lawyers. You don’t need to be a diehard Holte Ender to question why on earth Emery would leave Villa for United. Emery runs the football operations at Villa, organising and inspiring the squad and team, and overseeing the successful recruitment model. United are a managerial churn machine, a dysfunctional family, with tensions between fans and board, and a squad that needs a long-overdue overhaul. Carragher also needed challenging - in a debate, not a court - about his view on a famous club who have contributed so much to the history of the game. Near the players’ entrance is the statue of William McGregor, founder of the Football League. Villa were founder members of the Premier League. Champions of England, champions of Europe, producer of talent like Brian Little, Gabby Agbonlahor, Gary Cahill and Jack Grealish, and a couple more in the pipeline. The Holte End is one of the great stands of football. Villa deserve more respect from Carragher which he now shows belatedly in today’s post. But Carragher’s suggestion that there is a food chain in football is hardly a radical thought. It’s a view, the game is full of them, and if lawyers are scrambled, and views are censored, then the whole game is the poorer.

How does Jamie Carragher continue to work in television?🤔 ❌ Insulted Aston Villa & Villa fans ❌ Spat on a child ❌ Openly supported a racist (Suarez) ❌ Bankruptcy order for an unpaid tax bill ❌ Called AFCON a “joke” ❌ Said: Afcon is not a major tournaments Many football fans dislike Carragher, including many Liverpool fans. Make it make sense 🤯
🚨🚨| JUST IN: Aston Villa have announced their intention to take legal action against Jamie Carragher over his remarks about the club and its fans. Carragher said Aston Villa will 𝗡𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥 be as big as Manchester United. 😨❌

Its disappointing to see @Carra23 just for Unai to jump ship to Man U because "he won't win a CL at Villa". Man U are years away from challenging at that level again. Unai is building a club, not just his 2nd iteration of AVFC. Show the club some respect #AVFC

Just want to add to this, Man U is one of the biggest jobs on the planet. I am not disrespecting the club or the fanbase in anyway, I just wish these pundits would show the same respect to my club too.

Absolute nonsense @piersmorgan If Emery would have been given the backing and time Arteta had been, he’d have won far more than one PL. If you’d have put Arteta in charge of us after Gerrard, we wouldn’t be anywhere near the team we are now.
Nonsense. Emery is a top manager/coach but Arteta is now the best in the world, not just the Premier League.

📊 Unai Emery has won 𝟔𝟏.𝟔% of his Premier League home games as Aston Villa manager (45 wins in 73 games). 🏟️ That's the highest win rate of any Villa manager with at least five home games in the competition, 𝟗.𝟔 percentage points ahead of Graham Taylor (52.0%). #AVFC

Unai Emery on Ross Barkley: "Firstly, as a person, he is a fantastic guy. Getting emotions together is important, and everyone needs to feel the same. Ross Barkley is a very good player with experience, and his career, I don't know why, was going down after Chelsea. When we watched him at Luton, we thought, 'Wow, what a player'. I am so happy with how he is playing his football for us, always being respectful whether he is playing or not playing. I am pushing him a lot offensively. I know he can score and can head the ball. I am very demanding of him offensively. I am happy for him." #AVFC
