Tonight, the American people sent a clear message — they want a politics that brings people together rather than divides them, and leaders who offer concrete solutions to the challenges they face. These results were only possible because outstanding candidates stepped forward in every region of the country — including in areas once considered long shots. They came from different backgrounds and represented a range of political perspectives, but were united by shared values, a belief in public service, and a commitment to putting the people of their districts and states first. We also owe a debt of gratitude to the thousands of election officials and volunteers from both parties who helped ensure a smooth election and carried out one of the most essential functions of our democracy. While this administration has another two years in office, our job now is to roll up our sleeves, make changes wherever we have the power to do so, prevent further damage, and lay the groundwork for the future.

A Savannah police officer gave her Flock login to her husband. Her husband is an ICE agent. He ran 983 license plate searches. Across six states. 788 were in South Carolina. Mostly looking for cars registered to Hispanic owners. An investigator asked her: "Did you run these searches?" She said no. Then admitted it was her husband. Her husband said: "Every name that I ever ran was an ICE target." Translation: I was using the police department's surveillance system to hunt people. She got fired. Along with five other Savannah PD employees. All for Flock misuse. ICE is investigating its own agent. Which means nothing will happen to him. Georgia law apparently lets Savannah police share plate data with ICE. But Savannah never agreed to that. So she just decided it was fine. Gave him the password. He turned it into a deportation tool. Now there's a paper trail showing Flock was used to target Hispanic drivers across state lines. Using a police officer's credentials. With her knowledge. The surveillance network designed to catch criminals became a hunting tool for immigration enforcement. One password away from working.
BREAKING: Georgia police officer fired after giving her ICE agent husband access to Flock surveillance cameras, which he used to conduct nearly 1,000 license plate searches.

Reminder for anyone worrying about this: armed agents at the polls is a crime, not a gray area. The law doesn’t care what uniform they’re wearing. If you see it, write down where and when, take a photo if it’s safe, and call 866-OUR-VOTE.

Looking at you @NCGOP.
I don’t want to hear a single fake fucking tribute to Dolly Parton from Republicans who were perfectly willing to zero out funding for her Imagination Library. You don’t get to mourn the woman while gutting the work she devoted her life to. Spare us the bullshit. We see you.

Dolly Parton on her Imagination Library program that Republicans defunded: "[My daddy] was the smartest man I have ever known, but I knew [...] his inability to read probably kept him from seeing all of his dreams come true. Inspiring kids to love to read became my mission."

Even in the unlikely event that AI ever became capable of producing high-quality music and fiction, we must still refuse to engage with it. Regardless of its potential utilities in STEM, AI has no place in the humanities. Art is for human beings.

Senator Raphael Warnock's proposal to ban private equity firms from buying up single-family homes is now federal law.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The claim that Senator Warnock's proposal “banned private equity from owning single-family homes” is false. The new law caps the number of single-family homes that can be owned by private equity at 350, it is not a ban. npr.org/2026/07/10/nx-…

There’s an episode from Cheers where Frasier and another guy are quoting from Richard II and Cyrano de Bergerac. 34 million Americans watched this episode.
Ten years ago you could make jokes about Jane Eyre and Dracula on twitter and most people would get them; nowadays I have to explain references to Alice in Wonderland and The Hobbit as if we’re living in a very on-the-nose film adaptation of Fahrenheit 451.
