Ce week-end c'était échantillonnage dans le Vercors avec l'Observatoire des Abeilles ! Spectaculaire !
This weekend was all about sampling in the Vercors with the Bee Observatory! Spectacular !

I tweeted the cartoon with a note:
#BeeHotel's help wild solitary #bees & #wasps. Also rotten tree trunks and open sandy patches are good for them. But #pollinators also need food. So mowe less grass & leave wild areas for wild flowers in the garden, please!

This undulating mossy forest floor in Quebec
rain saturates the soil, it’s less cohesive with tree roots, the winds try to topple the trees, that force is transferred to the roots by the trunks
Each trunk acts like a lever, prising up shallow roots

Happy world bee day! Did you know the vast majority of bees in the world nest alone on the ground (no hive, queen or workers). Many species, like these Diadasia, build nests in large aggregations I like to call bee neighborhoods

Happy #InverteFest! Here's an older comic about all the types of moths there are.
ALT A comic called "Types of Moths", with a grid of nine moths laid on the background of a moth sheet. Image 1 is a bird poop mimic moth labeled "bird poop". Moth 2 has huge feathery antennae and is labeled "gets wifi". Moth 3 is giant and colorful, with big eyespots, labeled "large friend". Moth 4 is a tiny micromoth labeled "beautiful pattern, probably". Moth 5 is a yellowish moth labeled "impossible to ID to species." Moth 6 is a pale stripy moth labeled "that one, you know, with the thing - arg, I forget the name". Moth 7 is pink, yellow, and fuzzy and is labeled "stuffed toy". Moth 8 is a dizzyingly patterned sphinx moth labeled "so dizzyingly complex that it consumes your soul". Moth 9 is plain green and labeled "ooh, green".

Rare Desert Bloom in Atacama Desert, Chile.
Atacama Desert in northern Chile is considered the oldest and driest desert on the planet. Every five to seven years, this arid land explodes with new plant life during a rare phenomenon called a desert bloom.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This photograph is from Utah, not Chile.
