Think it’s fair to say the honeymoon period is over for Doug King after this. 😬 If whoever comes in isn’t an instant success, the owner is going to become very unpopular, very quickly. This will define his tenure. Where do we go from here? Huge moment. #PUSB

Confirmation from @OBR_UK that it still assumes the extension of automatic enrolment first proposed in 2017 will not start to be phased in within the forecast period, ie not before April 2030.

Would be good to see opportunities for co investment to extend to retail investors too.

My tried and trusted method of talking pensions when on a 🚴 ride with Tom until he gives in and invites me on the @thelangcat pod!
Have a listen to this podcast in which the excellent @LongPensions talks about the government’s pension review, about adequacy in retirement saving, financial resilience and the @HLInvest Barometer and we talk about the forthcoming Budget podbean.com/eas/pb-67jxq-169…

@HLInvest’s Savings & Resilience Barometer out today. A divide across the Nation. I wonder what changes we may see in the next 5 years with a new Government?

Great thread for anyone interested in auto-enrolment in pensions. What constitutes a worker, low pay levels and rights from day one all important for pensions policy
look away now if you have zero interest in employment law, because this thread is going to compare and contrast - in minute detail - the 2021 Labour New Deal For Working People and the new, rewritten version which I got hold of yesterday.....

This is a huge issue. Not only does it put strain on housing resource it increases retirement costs. Can anyone really see divorce levels in retirement reducing?
The number living alone has increased by 620k over the past decade. Those aged 65+ accounted for 93% of this increase. Is our housing stock ready to support our changing demographics? (Note: 3.6m young adults (20-34) are still at home with their parents). ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationa…

If @HajiWright’s feet were one size smaller we’d be in the cup final. What an unbelievable effort from all the @Coventry_City players. One side looked like a premier league team today and the other was @ManUtd. #pusb

Could the cost of any compensation to women for State Pension equalisation (if it arises) be delivered by taking a hair cut on State Pension rises over the next 5 years or so? May offset some of the fears of inter-generational unfairness?

Interested in views of financial advisers. Does British ISA become a huge pain for doing asset allocation for clients? Does this become a complete re-jig of strategy or is British ISA just a bolt on? #springbudget

If LISA penalty were reduced and age of opening increased to 55, @HLInvest analysis shows 1.2 million households with a self-employed basic rate tax payer could benefit. 500,000 households have enough in emergency savings to take advantage immediately. hl.co.uk/features/5-to-thriv…

Great news if true. AJ Bell and others have been calling for the withdrawal charge to be reduced from 25% to 20% - so the aim is to return the bonus - for years. Would improve the product and make explaining the benefits simpler. Property limit also long overdue an upgrade.
Lifetime ISA win coming in budget?! Good news! @POLITICOEurope has a scoop by @JamesFitzJourno that Chancellor will follow my suggestion and wipe the 6.25% Lisa withdrawal fine for anyone buying a home. If true, this'd fix the current dire system whereby when people are priced out and have to buy a home above £450,000 limit the state fines them to get access to their cash. It suggests, less firmly, the limit will rise to £500,000 too. Here's the open letter I wrote to the Chancellor on exactly this (amidst other things) ...
