Other think tanks are available.
A massive moment for @iealondon. They’ve been advocating these policies for years. They incubated Truss and Kwarteng during their early years as MPs. Britain is now their laboratory.

Rather than try to dismantle the British state, maybe Rees-Mogg should try and tear down the huge amounts of red tape which have been erected thanks to the Conservatives’ trade deal with Europe. buff.ly/3dsh5lx

Nasty politics from the nasty party, more focused on internal squabbling than helping people. Liz Truss' plans would have cut hundreds of pounds off nurses’, teachers’ and police officers' pay in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis. theguardian.com/politics/202…

Wow. Utterly bewildering vote in the Lords this evening. Lib Dem Lord Storey moved amendment 58 of Schools Bill to provide free school lunches to all pupils in households receiving universal credit. Labour whipped to *abstain*. The amendment failed. votes.parliament.uk/Votes/Lo…

7 months ago @EdwardJDavey called for a windfall tax. Conservatives said no and have resisted the idea ever since while more and more people have been dragged into poverty.

Independent Committee on standards in public life takes swipe at Govt over #Greensill lobbying, #Jenrick bribes, #Johnsons private funding, & #PritiPatel’s bulling, saying recent standards have dropped. Bet this Govt will try to shelve it’s recommendations for change. @LibDems

This is a victory for the Liberal Democrats and all those who stood up against these deeply illiberal and unworkable plans. Conservatives have sown confusion among businesses for months by threatening Covid passports, and will not be forgiven for it. theguardian.com/world/2021/s…

When I go around the country so many voters have seen through the Prime Minister and realised he doesn't share their values. So for many people, Dominic Cummings' interview will just confirm what they already knew.

Good news. Thank you to everyone who supported my call for the Government to reconsider opting out, and to the Government for seeing sense. I look forward to the UK opting in to future rounds, and other similar schemes.
No 10 u-turn on EU buying scheme for ventilators - spokesman says UK didn't take part as there was a mix-up with emails + they missed deadline. But UK will consider taking part in future rounds Insists no ideology involved after being accused of putting "Brexit over breathing"

Important when discussing coronavirus responses to distinguish 1) Italy-style 'lockdown' including restrictions on being out in the street, with 2) strict social distancing measures that involve ordering closure of shops, bars, pubs, restaurants etc
