Privatisation and profiteering are damaging our NHS and patient care Andy Burnham MUST rebuild our NHS as the health service Labour founded it to be: ✅Free at the point of use, ✅Funded from general taxation, and ✅Run fully in public ownership Thank you @premnsikka for speaking out

Oh why oh why can a private provider only charge x3 average nhs costs.... Maybe its because they dont cover emergency, acute admissions, icu, transplant, maternity and select solely low risk elective & outpatient care - deferring to nhs for everything else. At least do some basic – at Edinburgh, Scotland

Increase training, make it uniform & transparent Ensure robust, accredited exams Ensure regulation None of above yet applies to disparate, often weak NP/ ACP training. Their errors are mainly from undertraining not due to short slots, high workloads. The latter can be remedied.

As a Dr when teaching med students I warn them that EVERY single near miss or avoidable death I’ve seen in >30y has been where 1)failed to take a Hx 2)failed to examine patient 3)failed to localise anatomically 4)failed to come up with differential diagnosis. This👇is 1)-4)🤬
Dylan Cope died after an A&E nurse practitioner mistook his abdominal pain for flu, having ignored his GP’s referral for suspected appendicitis. His family thought she was a doctor. A coroner found he would have survived had a senior doctor examined him. telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10…

Tower Hamlets Council refused the Brick Lane data centre unanimously. Nine resident groups opposed it. The council and the mayor asked for housing instead. The government approved it anyway, through ministerial recovery, with the letter signed on behalf of Angela Rayner. The scheme offers 44 homes, six of them for social rent, and a data centre built around high-frequency trading. Rayner's partner, Sam Tarry, has been senior adviser since May at NorthPoint Strategy, a lobby firm whose sectors include AI, crypto and energy. Its chair is Tory peer Lord Wharton. Its crypto council lists Andreessen Horowitz among its clients. NorthPoint says Tarry helps clients "shape policy agendas". The minister who decides where data centres go shares a household with the adviser to the industry that needs them. 🧵 europeanpowell.substack.com/…

[The] expansion of online [NP] programs, growth of direct-entry pathways, and increasing variability in clinical training, ... are [not] reflected in the included studies.

One of the studies presented as proof of contention was not even a real study, just a study protocol. The actual study was never done (Austeng). Another, Rushforth, was labeled by authors as a “failed study” as they only were able to enroll 8 patients, with 3 in nurse arm.

Gillian Leng : ‘It isn’t safe for PAs to see undifferentiated Pts in GP because they haven’t studied the depth and breadth of medicine. Plus, simple isn’t always simple’ Also Gillian Leng : ‘ PAs can see undifferentiated pts’ Both statements can’t be correct .

The pressure started when the Tories closed 25k acute and general beds between 2010-16 and now we have 13k blocked beds due to 14 yrs of inertia on social care and failure to create more publicly funded care places

It’s an absolute joke. Pretty much every HST I know in EM despises RCEM. I don’t want non-doctors having influence over my royal college thank you

A very senior consultant told me that trainee ACPs were paid for by HEE but once they qualified they were paid for out of the resident doctors’ budget. Doctor substitution IS a thing just fyi, however you want to frame it. telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/09… @TheBMA #medtwitter

Concerns have been raised across the medical profession about unhelpful and inappropriate blurring of the distinction between doctors and non-medically qualified staff. Our new report details safety concerns we have received relating to advanced practitioners. You can read the full report on our website bma.org.uk/our-campaigns/all…
