Hugely excited that the Duchy of Cornwall, working with their tenant farmer & @NaturalEngland, will expand the iconic temperate rainforest of Wistman's Wood through natural regeneration
I hope this inspires others to bring back Britain's lost rainforests

20% of the UK has optimum conditions for rainforest to thrive, yet it covers only 0.5% of land.
On #WorldRainforestDay, we want to highlight the fantastic work by @LostRainforests to change this and restore the UK's natural temperate rainforests🌳🌲

Invasive rhododendron is choking our temperate rainforests. But groups like the @nationaltrust are working hard to eradicate it - such as at this site on the Exmoor coast (the purple swathes in the background). Great to visit it with local MP @SelaineSaxby today! 1/

Useful to see this PQ response by Minister Trudy Harrison about support for temperate rainforests under ELMs. It's great that rainforest restoration is being supported in Landscape Recovery - but am speaking with landowners currently about gaps in CS.

Great to see the @WildlifeTrusts progressing their plans for temperate rainforest restoration & expansion!
This must be a spur to the UK Govt to act too - moving from acknowledging the importance of Britain’s rainforests to more protections & funding:

Invasive Rhododendron ponticum is choking Britain’s temperate rainforests.
But – astonishingly – there are still a handful of plant nurseries that sell it!
PLEASE HELP: Call on these firms to stop selling rainforest-killing rhododendron – contact details for them all below: 1/
