I unveiled the plaque for the Queen’s Jubilee Garden, a tribute to Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. As its inscription reminds us, “The Glory of the Garden… shall never pass away.” It is a privilege to be connected to a place that inspires reflection for generations to come.
Canadian citizenship carries both privileges & responsibilities. As new citizens, you join a proud tradition of service, responsibility, & community engagement while bringing fresh perspectives that help shape our province & country. Congratulations on this meaningful milestone.
I was honoured to receive the First Poppy & to reflect on all that it represents. The poppy reminds us of the courage & sacrifice of those who served, & of our responsibility to remember them. As the Season of Remembrance begins, I encourage Albertans to honour their legacy.
During Women’s History Month, I am showcasing some Alberta community leaders I particularly admire. I have spent many hours talking with Asha Jama, Mabel Adesopo and Mabinotu Ouattara of the UBORA Women’s Initiative and always come away energized and inspired. /1
Alberta is fortunate to be the chosen home of people like Kimoya Edwards, whose family came here from Jamaica when she was in her early teens. There seems to be no field of endeavour that she does not excel at. Not only is she a nationally recognized track and field star… /1
…but she also was a 2-term VP Academic at the Univ. of Lethbridge, assistant director of the Network of Black Women and founder of the FLARE Symposium. Naturally gifted and positive-minded, I can only imagine what accomplishments await her in the future. #ABWomenNewcomers /2
Thank you to His Majesty for his kind words to Albertans:

Dr. Jean Walrond calls herself a “Sickle Cell Warrior,” and she has earned that title many times over. Since her arrival in Canada from the Caribbean in 1968, she has worked as an advocate for those living with sickle cell disease… /1
Those individuals include her daughter, whose diagnosis spurred Dr. Jean to make fighting sickle cell her life’s work. As president of the Sickle Cell Foundation of Alberta, she is ensuring patients have greater access to the resources and care they need. #ABWomenNewcomers /2
Today is Referendum Day. If you have not already voted in the mail-in or advance ballot, I encourage all eligible Albertans to get out and vote. Find where to vote here: tinyurl.com/32zuh5t7
As more information emerges about the terrible fire at CFB Wainwright, my thoughts are with the victims, their families, loved ones and fellow military personnel, and the first responders working bravely to contain the damage.
The #PersonsCase was decided by the Privy Council in London 97 years ago today, recognizing women as “persons” under Canadian law and opening a new era of female possibility and achievement. I salute the determination of the Famous Five and their pursuit of justice.
Last night, eight great Albertans were inducted into the Alberta Order of Excellence at a ceremony at Government House. Once again, I congratulate Jodi Abbott, Clive Beddoe, Bruce Bentley, Heather Culbert, Ian Holloway, Kim McConnell, Ron Triffo and Paul Wynnyk...
My heart goes out to all those affected by the tragic traffic incident in Calgary. I extend my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives & wish the injured a full recovery. Thank you to all first responders who came to the aid of others.
Born in Croatia, Milica Opacic is currently Canada’s Honorary Consul of the Republic of Serbia in Alberta. Few individuals are doing more to promote the appreciation of the culture and heritage of her home country in Alberta, such as through Calgary’s annual Serbian festival. /1
She routinely engages with all levels of governments the diplomatic and consular corps, cultural organizations, business leaders and community leaders to strengthen cooperation among Serbian organizations and Canadian institutions. Ziveli Serbia! #ABWomen Newcomers /2
During Women’s History Month, I am showcasing some Alberta community leaders I admire. And seldom have I met a more powerful and engaging public speaker than AOE recipient Kim Ruether. After the tragic death of her teenaged son Brock, she channeled her grief into action… /1
