I have been reflecting on the death of 343/Halo Studios. It is crushing to know that so many creative voices and talents get ground to dust beneath the corporate machine infecting the heart of the industry. At the same time, I realize that Halo has been dead to me for a decade. Many titles that I cherished as a boy exist in a similar state in my heart today. The projects that captured the imagination of my youth have since dissolved into slop. Too many IPs have lost their souls to the industry's void. Ever-flanderized into hollow forms and ultimately driven by the need for greater "audience capture." I look back on old ViDocs with an odd and painful sense of nostalgia. I yearn for the revival of a golden era where small teams of passionate creatives can come together and achieve something truly great. The industry is rotten to its core, driven by a multitude of invisible hands that seek to fatten themselves upon the dreams and talent of others. The passive influences of financial gain ultimately shift projects and ideas into undisciplined garbage. It is a dream of mine to one day share my creative machinations with the world. I hope I can achieve it. I hope even more that I can do it with a small team of talented, passionate people.
