We continue to encourage all Ugandans to pay attention to the #ElNiño early warning messages and take action. The areas at risk of landslides in the Mt Elgon sub-region were identified and mapped. This information was shared with the district local governments and people in the mapped areas. We continue to work with the district local governments to encourage people to move from the high-risk areas to safer locations. The @GovUganda is implementing the resettlement programme for households at risk of landslides and other disasters in the sub-region and other parts of the country. The Rt. Hon. Prime Minister @R_Nabbanja launched the second phase of resettlement and cash transfer programme in Kween District in March. Several households have since been moved from landslide-prone areas and resettled in Kween District. Under this resettlement programme, each household is allocated two acres of land in a new location and UGX 10 million to support house construction. We have taken note of the concerns from local leaders in Sebei sub-region. Following landslides in Bukwo and Kween Districts last year, we moved people from dangerous areas to safer holding grounds. The affected households in Kween agreed to move to safer grounds. They were registered and have been allocated land in Girik sub-county in Kween District. They are also receiving financial support (UGX 10 million each) to build homes. In Bukwo, local leaders discouraged the households from registering for resettlement in the identified safer areas. We continue to engage with the local leaders and all stakeholders to have these people registered and moved to Girik and Chepsikunya in Kween District @AlexKakooza_ @DMwenyi
