Species profile: Long-tailed Tit (Meantán earrfhada). The Long-tailed Tit (Meantán earrfhada) is an increasingly familiar sight in the gardens of Ireland during the cold wintry days of December.

A sound lost long ago in Wexford and throughout a lot of the country. Brilliant to hear my first ever Corncrake on my last day in Southern Bavaria 🔊 #Corncrake

Happy #WorldCurlewDay! After trying to get some nice photos of them for the @ECHOESproj over the past winter, here are some of my attempts as tribute to an iconic bird of these lands – at Wexford, Ireland

It's World Curlew Day.
Here's a short article I wrote about their decline in Ireland, and some of our findings from @ECHOESproj for @RTEBrainstorm
Next time you're at the coast, see if you can spot one of our most vulnerable birds...

Spring is in the air and some of the Curlew are already thinking of heading back north to their breeding grounds. The ECHOES team is busy this month collecting as much tracking data as they can before our tagged birds start thinking about leaving our estuaries. #EUIrelandWales

Its was a chilly day to be at Ballyteige 🇮🇪to get Curlew 🛰️tagged & ringed, but they did it! 👏ECHOES Fieldwork Team🌟 @BTO_Cymru @UCC @AberUni @CompassInfo @weGeoSmart #CountyWexford #Curlew #satellite #waders #EUIrelandWales
Another species for the @BirdWatchIE Garden Bird Survey and a special one for me. My first Fieldfares (somehow my bogey bird for years) who have been feeding on the cotoneaster berries in the garden since last Thursday. I managed to capture this video earlier today 📸
This winter has so far been the best out of all the years I've been doing the survey. We are already up to 36 species and will hopefully hit 40 by the end of the survey period. Letting the garden go wild has certainly paid off big time 🎉

Here is a great example of a Eurasian Curlew taking advantage of the receding tide and using its long curved bill to probe for invertebrates in the mud, Ballyteige 🇮🇪

Great first week of the #IrishGardenBirdSurvey for the garden. All five 'other species' columns filled out already including the return of one of the roosting Long eared Owls for a second successive winter 🦉 – at Wexford, Ireland
Not the worst office in the world 🌅

Great to be the first @NewGeographyUCC feature from the department mapping our research to the #SDGs (and no I’m actually not managing the account!!). Exploring our work led by @LukeLamb96 as well as our @CNaturewatch project on biodiversity in the city
