One of my favorite drills - forces players to read space before the catch. Here we limited the players to one dribble. You can play fully live or add different rules to isolate certain skills.
Drop coverage is more common in the NBA and college, but HS and Youth players will still see it. Many times, bc the “shower” is out of position.
In these situations the ball handler has 3 cues:
1. Set up and separation off the screen
2. Attack the bigs hips
3. Find the open
Get players in situations where they are making decisions and need to execute.
The on air cone work looks great, but it all changes when live bodies are out there and split second decisions need to be made.
1v1 Bump Finishing - Must take two dribbles, must finish off 2
✅ Play under control and on balance.
✅ Use your body to create angles or separation
✅ Play off 2 in the paint
Defender works to keep their chest in front of the ball & maintain their cushion
Offense is working their handle, change of pace, change of direction.
The defender is forced to be “reactionary” with their dribbles & move efficiently with the ball in different movement patterns.
Transition Race to the Rim: players in open space, playing at higher speeds.
Develop these 5 skills:
1. Push Dribble
2. Sever the angle - cut D off
3. Hold the line - keep D on shoulder
4. Stop quick to create space if needed
5. Get to 2 feet on balance if necessary
Owning the drive line is a MUST for good offense.
In advantage 1v1 situations you must be able to score the ball.
If we draw 2, then we grow the advantage with a kick out.
Bad driving angles bail out defenses. Force them to guard ball or their man, not both.

Finishing Work! It’s not as simple as get to the basket and lay it in. Players must understand:
✅ Physicality
✅ Positioning
✅ Footwork
✅ Fakes

Details of the hide behind 3.
The ability to consistently hit that shot is a game changer
Makes defense go over screens and force two on the ball.

6’6 Junior PG Andrew Rohde has been one of the most impressive passers in CBB. So far this season he’s averaging
9 PPG
3 RPG
5 APG
41% 3FG
At 6’6 Rohde has the size and versatility to make plays for his teammates and has impressive vision. Rohde is also good at limiting his turnovers. Hes currently one of 5 High Major players 6’6 or taller averaging 5 APG or more and the only in that group to shoot 40% from three.
Outside of his passing Rohde is also a very impressive shooter who’s shooting 41% from three and has the ability to shoot off the move, off the catch, or off the dribble. Rohde also has good touch on his floaters and can create his shot from the mid range.
🎯 🔥 @bennau2
Four straight wins for St Thomas, and 5 wins in its last 6 after the W over WMU.
Locally, this team is a sight. Ben Nau made a career high 6 threes and finished with 22 to lead @TommieMBBall 🔥
8-4 on the year and among the top contenders in the Summit.🏔️

This is one variations we use to diversify form shooting… adding movement, while staying locked in on form. Shooters need to be able to find their “positions” in a variety of movements & angles.
Posture: Chest & Chin up! Hips down and back.
