This paragraph by Kobe Bryant hits hard: ā€œEveryone wants to be a beast. Everyone wants to be the best. But very few people are willing to do what it actually takes. Because what it takes is boring. It is waking up at 4:00 AM. It is shooting the same shot a thousand times. It is watching the film when you are tired. People fall in love with the result, but they hate the process. You have to fall in love with the boredom. You have to fall in love with the repetition. If you can find joy in the mundane work that no one else sees, the lights will eventually shine on you.ā€

Hey Coaches, Someday, someone else will have your job. They’ll sit in your office, wear your gear, and lead the program you once called yours. That’s not meant to diminish the importance of your work. It’s simply a reminder that we’re all replaceable professionally. But there are roles in your life that nobody else can fill. Your children only have one you. Your spouse only has one you. Don’t become so consumed with being excellent in a role that someone else can eventually fill that you neglect the roles that only you can fulfill. I’m all for pursuing excellence in your profession. But just make sure you're bringing that same commitment to the roles that only you can fulfill.

PJ Fleck shares what true leadership looks like. "When you're infectious and guys want to be like you and then they react to what you want them to do - that's the sign of true leadership." "When you get people to do extraordinary things." Leadership isn't a title - it's influence. Great leaders bring consistent energy, belief, and selflessness to their teams. They make people want to follow - not because they have to, but because they want to.

The drive that ends in a kick-out to an open three-point shooter is a better possession than the drive that ends in a contested layup.
