Clayface isn’t just unlike any DC film we’ve gotten before. It’s unlike any comic book movie we’ve ever gotten and the best DC film to come out of DC Studios since James Gunn and Peter Safran took charge. This is a villain story down to its core, with James Watkins showcasing the dark, brutal, gritty, and gory side of Gotham and the DCU. Tom Rhys Harrie brings so much charm to the role of Matt Hagen while also showcasing the menacing, villainous half that devours him. It feels like a Gotham crime story to its core with its blend of horror, romance, and suspense. If DC Studios can continue producing more films of this quality, then we’re in for a ride. What a disappointing past couple of days for film criticism discourse. I'm a PR who largely specialises in animation. @RyanGaur is one of the most dedicated and well-versed animation critics in the UK, and even if he wasn't, his opinion on a film would still deserve respect.

One of the greatest strengths of Clayface is James Watkins' inventive direction. This new interview from @neilvagg has a great breakdown of his approach. Go check it out!

Speaking of racism in the animation community… Just a few weeks until my panel at Manchester Animation Festival about how the animation industry is failing people of colour Come along!
Amazing lineup all round, but I’d like to call attention to my little brainchild The animation industry has a whiteness problem, so I crafted this panel to break it down Hope to see some of you guys there in November!

‘CLAYFACE’ is a brutal, grotesque body horror film anchored by outstanding performances from Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie. Unlike any comic book movie we’ve gotten. A horrifying but phenomenal entry for the DCU. Read @NexusPointNews review: nexuspointnews.com/review-cl…

Now, I might have liked Clayface but if a DCU Poison Ivy series drops before a Batman project…

I say this but I love the idea of a Poison Ivy show if it’s anything like The Penguin or Clayface.

Clayface works fine as baby’s first body horror im but it doesn’t rise much beyond that and the result is something middling that fails to shape much of its own identity. Full review via @GeekVibesNation here geekvibesnation.com/clayface…

Clayface: The first DCU film to really set itself apart from being a traditional comic book movie. Watkins, Flanagan, and Amini break into telling a body horror story about identity with an outstanding performance from Tom Rhys Harries that elevates the material of the already complex Matt Hagen.
