PSYCHOSIS IS A MEDICAL EMERGENCY. If your loved one were having a stroke, nobody would tell you to wait β€” or to come back when it's worse. Psychosis is a brain emergency too. And because the illness takes away insight, our loved ones usually can't ask for help themselves.

Instead of early intervention, we wait for tragedy. Then everyone asks how it could have happened. Treatment first. ALWAYS. πŸ’š #Psychosis #Schizophrenia #Anosognosia #TreatmentFirst #MentalHealthIsHealth #HealthcareIsAHumanRight

@fordnation @sylviajonesmpp @michellecooperpc So families wait until someone gets hurt, or until police are the only door left β€” knowing a jail cell won't treat a brain illness. Instead of early intervention, we wait for tragedy. Then everyone asks how it could have happened

Thank you to the three mayors who have put their support for mental health law reform in writing: @DavidWestRH of Richmond Hill, Jan Liggett of Cambridge and @drewdilkens of Windsor β€” the last two signed while in office. Three cities. One message: reform can't wait.

"I am writing to express my wholehearted support for the mental health law reform proposals put forward by the Ontario Psychiatric Association." β€” Jan Liggett. We are asking every mayor and MPP in Ontario to add their name. #MentalHealthIsHealth #HealthcareIsAHumanRight

Thirty years of caregiving. One son, doing well today because his family never stopped fighting for treatment. Marvin Ross's "Our Thirty-Year Caregiving Struggle" β€” profiled in Dundas Today: dundastoday.com/local-news/l… Treatment equals recovery. #MentalHealthIsHealth

Anosognosia: the symptom where a person with serious brain illness genuinely can’t recognize they’re ill. Not denial. Not a choice. It affects roughly half of people with schizophrenia. Our laws wait for insight the illness itself removed. #Anosognosia

Nobody calls dementia a "mental health issue." Nobody waits for a stroke patient's consent to treat their brain. Psychosis is a brain illness too β€” and the law should treat it like one. Treatment first. ALWAYS. @MichelleC_PC #BrainIllness #Anosognosia #Psychosis

We're told parents are advocating for their children to lose their human rights. No. WE advocate to SAVE their lives β€” not to make decisions for them, but because their illness gives them no concept that they're ill. It's called ANOSOGNOSIA Treatment gives the decisions back

THE RIGHTS MYTH: "Involuntary treatment takes away rights." We hear it in every comment section. Here's what we know from living it. Whose rights β€” when psychosis is calling the shots?

We are not taking away anyone's rights. Their rights matter to us more than anyone. The illness already took their rights. Treatment gives them back β€” independent, law-abiding citizens, living full lives. @fordnation @SylviaJonesMPP @MichelleC_PC

What do families want? Ontario to review the Mental Health Act. Support for the OPA's proposals. And a separate section of the Act for schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder and bipolar psychosis, with safeguards β€” so treatment starts before tragedy. #TreatmentFirst

Ask anyone β€” a teenager, any adult: if this was going to happen to you, would you want your family stepping in, or would you want them to leave you like that? Nobody β€” not one person β€” ever says leave me.

The person who can't recognize they're ill. That's anosognosia β€” a symptom of the illness itself, not denial. The person whose "freedom" is a park bench in February, a jail cell, or the hospital revolving door.

BRAMPTON WANTS THE PILOT πŸ™οΈ Brampton is calling for a compassionate-intervention pilot in Peel: if someone's too ill to seek care, first responders could bring them to a psychiatric facility β€” where a physician, not a form, decides if treatment is needed. Ford's open to it.

But OUR fight is a separate section of the Mental Health Act for serious mental illness: schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar psychosis. The illnesses that take away insight itself.

Every step toward "treatment instead of abandonment" is proof the law CAN change. Not if anymore β€” how far, how fast.
