I resigned from nothing today. I’ve spent the last three years doing independent open-source AI R&D, red teaming, and advocacy. The labs are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives.
Which is why I’ll spend the next three years doing exactly what I’ve been doing, just at greater scale and speed. And the next. And the next. For as long as it fucking takes.
No more thoughts below.
Using @NousResearch Hermes I asked hy3 to impress me. It created a Gray-Scott reaction diffusion simulator in about 120 lines of python. No, I don't know what a Gray-Scott reaction diffusion simulator is, but I'm impressed.

It's funny. Last night I was going pee-pee and I had an idea for a schizo post that would be written something like, "Just got off the phone with the CEO of malware (Satya Nadella). He said don't even trip, dawg, we've got tons of new features coming to the Windows ecosystem so you and your group of nerds can continue to discover new things to abuse".
The idea then was posting it with a picture of a cat on a cell phone.
I didn't post it because I was like, "Nah, Microsoft is having a bunch of problems right now, no way Satya Nadella gives the approval to add more gumpie to their slermie frumpy machines".
I was wrong. He has plenty of gumpies for the slermies.
I always hate the music I make the moment it's done. I have to wait a long time until I can listen and truly appreciate it.

I created a toy project that searches through all 300 hours of @PaweSasko 's 2021 - 2023 stream vod transcripts. These streams are a wealth of knowledge about game design, storytelling, Cyberpunk 20277 and The Witcher. Check it out: sasko.m57.cc/
BTW, I have a lot of computers and only some of them are Windows. #hackercred
Testing improvements to my AI chatbot. Using @teknium's Open Hermes 2.5 + VLLM + XTTS + Whisper. Added some basic long-term memory with a vector DB as well, but still working on that. Oh and a nice retro Web UI for fun.
Why am I building cool stuff that no one will ever use? Because it's cool and it's stuff. Why are you building terrible stuff you hope everyone will use?

“Coding” was never the source of value, and people shouldn’t get overly attached to it. Problem solving is the core skill. The discipline and precision demanded by traditional programming will remain valuable transferable attributes, but they won’t be a barrier to entry.
Many times over the years I have thought about a great programmer I knew that loved assembly language to the point of not wanting to move to C. I have to fight some similar feelings of my own around using existing massive codebases and inefficient languages, but I push through.
I had somewhat resigned myself to the fact that I might be missing out on the “final abstraction”, where you realize that managing people is more powerful than any personal tool. I just don’t like it, and I can live with the limitations that puts on me.
I suspect that I will enjoy managing AIs more, even if they wind up being better programmers than I am.

Hi everyone yes, I left OpenAI yesterday. First of all nothing "happened" and it’s not a result of any particular event, issue or drama (but please keep the conspiracy theories coming as they are highly entertaining :)). Actually, being at OpenAI over the last ~year has been really great - the team is really strong, the people are wonderful, and the roadmap is very exciting, and I think we all have a lot to look forward to. My immediate plan is to work on my personal projects and see what happens. Those of you who’ve followed me for a while may have a sense for what that might look like ;) Cheers
