Joe Mazzulla on the back and forth between Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown:
“They were together for 10 years and they had great, great moments... So I think it's more just focusing on the greatness that those two are were to achieve, and the fact that they're both great people. They're different in how they play the game. They're different in how they handle things. They're just different. It doesn't mean that it's good or bad. They're just different. So you focus on the high character. We're focused on Jayson because he's with us. He plays for us. He's our guy. We're grateful for what Jaylen did in the past, but our focus is on Jayson. Who he is as a player, who he is as a person. But you never forget the gratitude and perspective of a former Celtic who has left this place in a better place.”

Just because the coach doesn’t play your child doesn’t mean they dislike them. A coach can care deeply about your child, both as a player and person, without agreeing with your assessment of their talent.

Bill Self says many parents have “done an unbelievably poor job of creating an atmosphere at the family table that does not respect authority”
This is extremely important - As a parent, you can’t enable bad behavior

Turned one overloaded cube organizer/bookcase into his and hers book shelves on both sides of the fireplace.
Any coaches ever get the “hey, you are losing the gym on this date because it’s used as an election polling station and you immediately get a pain in your stomach because the day before is shot due to team pictures and you have a scrimmage on that Saturday? lol I’ve got to quit checking my emails at red lights lol

Negativity doesn’t stay with one person. It spreads.
And what we allow, we encourage.
If someone is draining the energy of your team, don’t ignore it.
Confront them. Coach them. Love them. Give them the opportunity to change.
But if they refuse to change, you have to protect the team and the mission.
Great leaders don’t avoid the hard conversations.
They have them because they care enough about their people to protect the culture they’re building.

Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy on his heated moment with Mahomes in Week 4: "I have no problem with guys venting their frustrations... I want them to feel comfortable sharing that stuff with me... We're in the arena. It's all about survival... I'd rather him vent his frustrations to me than somewhere else where it's not taken the right way."

Every coach has stood on the sideline and wondered why a player isn’t giving full effort. Angela Duckworth offers a better question.
High performers carry four thoughts at once: this is interesting, this is important, I can do this, and I know what to try next. If even one of them is missing, full effort goes with it.
That changes where we look. A player coasting through a drill may not lack heart at all. They may not see where it shows up in a game, or they may have run out of things to try. Two of those four thoughts are almost entirely in our hands, through how we pitch the challenge and what we say after the rep.
This card helps you find the missing thought before you reach for “work harder,” which answers none of them. Print it, keep it on the clipboard, and the next time a drill goes flat, ask which one is missing.
The devil whispered in my ear, ”you aren’t strong enough to withstand the storm.”
I whispered back, “I am the storm”.
