#Brampton 2026 election results showed a larger voter turnout (29%) than 2022. But representation remains very low. The entire city council represents only 12% of eligible voters while the mayor represents only 15%. Of the voters cast for city council, 56% elected NO-ONE. 1/

Too bad. Only two parties allowed. UCP has you hostage. Proportional representation let's you free.
I want a provincial government that reduces spending, not one that increases it.

CTV News highlights B.C. Conservatives winning 69% of seats on 48% of the vote as turnout dropped below 50%, with comments from Fair Vote Canada's @RyanMatCampbell. Moving to proportional representation ensures your vote reflects your power in Victoria. ctvnews.ca/vancouver/article…

Kudos to host David Cochrane on Power and Politics Monday October 26, for mentioning the difference between seats and voter support that went to the winning party in the BC election. We sure wish Thomas Mulcair heard another remark Cochrane made. Although Mulcair said otherwise, Canadian voters aren't "good at" voting for a specific election outcome. Cochrane clarified this on his show too. Good on him. It's important to understand how elections do and don't work. @ThomasMulcair @lraitt @robertbenzie @VassyKapelos @BrianGallantNB @powerplay @pnpcbc @davidwcochrane

Have you tried organizing to give every Albertan sovereignty over their own vote? A vote is a vote is a vote. Voters need to cast a vote without fears of vote splitting.
For over five years now. I have been working on a theory about political organizing. I have tested in the field. I have trained the completely unexperienced in the methodology. I am now convince that it works, and that almost anyone can do it. The last step is mass production.

Albertans need a vote that counts instead of being labeled spoilers for the UCP. Proportional representation is just a level playing field for all parties, big, small, left in right. Let Albertans elect the government not a winner-take-all vote system.
I laugh when people say I have failed. There will probably be over 8,000 people attending the UCP AGM. Many of them there only to hold the powerful accountable. That never would have happened without me. Alberta is changed forever, one way or another.

CUPE 500 took out front page and full page Winnipeg Free Press advertising decrying low voter turnout. Two letters in the Winnipeg Free Press today respond to an editorial urging Winnipeggers to vote tomorrow in the civic election. More Winnipeggers would vote if their vote counted. City Hall should address disqualifying low voter trust and turnout, by convening a citizens' assembly on electoral reform and holding to its recommendations. @winnipegnews #wpgpoli @scottgillingham @kevinkleinwpg @cupe500 #mbpoli

We sure hope to see the Winnipeg Free Press publish a similar graph on the 2023 election of Wab Kinew by first-past-the-post. @paulsamyn @winnipegnews @damlett @trbrodbecj #mbpoli
Well knock me over with a feather: Black Press has published an article in favour of proportional representation. It admits that the election results do not reflect the popular vote. That we have to keep going over this is like Groundhog Day albernivalleynews.com/2026/1… #bcpoli

One overlooked option, not discussed on your podcast, is how proportional representation would alter the outcome in BC Remember former BC premier David Eby rejected a multi-party recommendation for. proportional representation. Easier caucus management. No one knows what, aside from a change from the NDP, this new government party represents including many of the new and unexpected MLAs. As usual FPTP distorted the seat count of the winner sending place holder candidates to Victoria. With 19 unearned seats swelling the government bench well above the 45 seats it deserved, the new government may feel much more empowered than its voter support warrants. With 50% of voters supporting the non-Conservative side, Eby could head a coalition if seats matched votes. BC voters would be the winners. The legislature would reflect the vote, not the caprice of FPTP. @SPhillipsAB @zainvelji @carter_AB youtu.be/xzPJ06k2YRY?si=_LuM…

Israel receives substantial aid from the US. The US state shields Israel from paying for its entire military budget, exerts its influence on western democracies to support Israel, and gives diplomatic cover at the UN. This warps Israeli politics in developing successful moderate parties. On the level of domestic politics, Israelis still rank amongst the happiest citizens in the world. Indeed Americans are jealous of their universal health care. PR appears to meet the needs of Israelis at a domestic level but massive protection by the US warps Israeli politics at the international level.
Using Israel as an argument against proportional representation is misleading. Its electoral system is unusual, with no local constituencies or vote for individual candidates. PR isn’t one system. We can have fairer elections and strong local representation. 👇 electoral-reform.org.uk/the-…

A majority of people did vote for STV in 2005, it only failed because it didn’t meet an unfair 60% threshold. STV is a great system overall, it leads to proportional results, ensures multiple perspectives are present from each area, provides voters multiple local MPs to reach out to, significantly reduces vote-splitting & strategic voting. I’m not sure what you mean by “they considered themselves smarter”, I don’t think that’s a fair comment about the participants of the 2005 Citizen’s Assembly
Replying to @politics_w_sami
we had two votes on STV and both failed, STV sucks and was never the preferred choice, I would like a MMP system, the 15 people chosen to pick a different voting system took in 1000's of submissions and chose the least popular STV, they considered themselves smarter

Thank you for advocating for Proportional Representation & making it clear that FPTP distorts the will of the electorate! 👏
Congratulations to the @BCGreens on an incredible campaign, and to Emily Lowan and Jeremy Valeriote on their victories!

Talking about proportional representation would be a smart move. It paints you as transformational, sets you apart from rivals, and promises to prevent scandal-ridden governments like Ford’s from winning absolute power without majority support. thestar.com/politics/provinc…

Brazil uses proportional representation and electronic vote tabulation.
Put a pin in this for a few weeks from now in British Columbia…

About the nature of that "massive" win. Less than half of the electorate voted for it. FPTP put its thumb on the scale with a windfall of unearned seats. FPTP put the "massive" in the win, not voters.
Relatively normal and likeable dude replaces deeply unpleasant and polarizing political animal as leader of conservative party and wins massively, in what is surely a fluke one-off with no broader meaning or significance that anyone should pay attention to or ponder in any way.

Last night British Columbia's winner-take-all vote elected a majority Conservative government, not voters. FPTP put its thumb on the scale giving one party more seats than it earned by voters and compensated by shortchanging other parties.
Last night British Columbia elected a majority Conservative government for the first time in a century. British Columbians wanted change, and voted for it in a big way. Playing a part in this campaign as Director of Communications has been one of the coolest things i've ever done. An incredible team that had to be put together on the fly, and pulled off a truly remarkable accomplishment. I'm so proud of so many people. The future looks bright for BC.

Turns out electoral systems matter. Eby rejected proportional representation. He could lead BC today as head of a governing coalition. With PR, Germany, a country of 85million, got 82% voter turnout in its snap winter, 2025 election. Voters vote more when their vote counts.
Turns out: 1. Ideas matter 2. Telling a story about your govt matters 3. *Selling* yourself, your govt & your team matters, it’s not somehow beneath you 4. Voters don’t like feeling someone’s trying to pull a fast one on them 5. Relying on MSM to get your msg out = govt death
