In the Winter of 1862, several Samurai and Ashigaru were dispatched to an outpost to resupply and relive it's garrison. It was found abandoned, burned to the ground with every man killed
Strangely not a single enemy body could be found. Diary entries from the commander told of being stalked by a creature he could not identify or describe. Only that it could take on the form of anything around it and was impervious to all weapons including modern firearms but feared fire.
The fort's commander was found in his quarters having been shot by one of his own but had fatally wounded his attacker who lay opposite from him. It would appear it was due to paranoia and fear rather than some kind of mutiny.
To this day no one knows what happened there and no such similar event has taken place.
