You are such a wonderful storyteller Annu. When I finally read the interview, it was with this as a soundtrack youtube.com/watch?v=ZmQB2Hnp… & with future hopes of traveling with you to similar/diff worlds in Bangladesh.
p.s- video illustrations are by Bangladeshi artist S.M Sultan!
Launch event: 1st Nov 1–2.15pm BST, 6.30- 7.45pm IST which aims introduces the project & asks big questions:
What do corporations need to consider when investing in projects that will contribute to the climate emergency in places like the Sundarbans?
@CameliaDewan @itihaashtag
In the 2 months after #cycloneyaas, women especially have felt that the act of preparing the food, serving it & eating communally is a means of dealing with the trauma of having lost ones homes & lands.
Communal hearths, as always, serve a crucial emotional need @Fridays4future
Community kitchens in #Sundarbans have been serving not just the need for food but have become a physical space to deal with collective loss & trauma after repeated cyclones.
@MahuaMoitra @derekobrienmp @AITCofficial pls support orgs. running such spaces for communal healing.
@MamataOfficial @derekobrienmp @MahuaMoitra @moefcc @WorldBankIndia pls support decentralised community #mangrove plantations. Give them funds now! Let residents, esp. women, already at the forefront plant/tend to them
5 crore is unrealistic=0 surviving mangroves
@MongabayIndia
Replying to @AITCofficial
@AITCofficial plans to plant 5 crore mangroves within a month🤣 Past govt. plantations have all died due to many reasons. Instead, community mangrove plantations supported by @AIDINDIA planted a realistic 300,000 mangroves in 4 blocks of #Sundarbans of which 85% survived.
HUGE!
Critically endangered river terrapin found & rescued in a #Sundarbans village after #CycloneYaas.
Biodiversity loss & warming go together.
@WWFINDIA please go after global consumption leading to #ClimateEmergency & end dispossession of communities via exclusionary conservation

NGO Chetana has been working with communities here since 2000, their long-term efforts are supported by @AIDINDIA including urgent relief.

Top 20 companies dealing in fossil fuels are responsible for 35% of CO2 emissions in the world, directly instigating food insecurity in places such as the #Sundarbans.
On #WorldEnvironmentDay it is imperative that the Global North provide longterm assistance to such communities
