Yesterday, I visited an EU-supported @WFPAsiaPacific distribution centre in Taungoo, Myanmar, where we help provide essential food assistance to around 10,000 people

IHL only matters if help reaches people.
When lives are at stake, we talk to those who can open doors & lift barriers. In DRC. In Lebanon. Everywhere humanitarian diplomacy can still shine a ray of light.
The only IHL-focused event at UNGA is where this conversation continues.

Ukraine may be facing the toughest winter of the war. We have been preparing, repairing & insulating homes, delivering generators & portable power stations & providing essential supplies.
Our humanitarian & civil protection support will continue, more strongly than ever. #SOTEU

Some people lead institutions. Emma Bonino gave ours a heart.
As Commissioner for @eu_echo, she helped make the EU faster & braver where it mattered most.
She never forgot the people behind the crises.
Today we are who we are because she believed we could be.
Grazie, Emma.

European solidarity has a face.
The face of each firefighter who battled the flames through Europe this summer.
They are true heroes.
Their courage, and for some, their sacrifice, will always be remembered.
My State of the Union address will pay tribute to them.
Welcome, President @vonderleyen, to the EU Emergency Response Coordination Centre. 🇪🇺
"When a country asks for help, within hours, that call becomes action."
Proud to welcome her alongside Commissioner @HadjaLahbib - and proud of every person in this building. 🔥

🐾 On #InternationalDogDay we honour search & rescue dogs around the world.
Trained to locate people trapped after disasters, these dogs work alongside their handlers to save lives in the toughest conditions.
Their courage, dedication, and skill make them true heroes. 🧡

Freedom is not free.
Ukraine has shown the world how much courage it takes to defend it.
On #UkraineIndependenceDay, we honour the resilience of its people and stand with them in their darkest hours.
Ukraine's freedom is Europe's freedom.
Слава Україні! 🇺🇦🇪🇺
On #WorldHumanitarianDay, we honour the aid workers risking their lives to help others - in Sudan, Gaza, DRC, Ukraine and beyond.
They are #NotATarget.
The EU is proud to work alongside the partners who make the real difference on the ground. Today and every day. 🇪🇺

Europe remains on high wildfire alert.
Pressure is growing in 🇧🇪 🇦🇱 🇷🇸 🇲🇪🇧🇦
Our satellite system Copernicus is already supporting mapping operations in 🇪🇸🇦🇱 🇬🇷 🇫🇷 🇩🇪🇷🇸
With its Emergency Centre, Europe is keeping a close eye on blazes across the continent.
And the Civil Protection Mechanism is there when a country calls for Europe’s solidarity.
Aleksander Milinkiewicz nie żyje. RIP. Miałem zaszczyt i przyjemność znać Pana Profesora od ponad 20 lat
Visited ECHO Wildfire Support Team today, coordinating the #EUCivilProtection Mechanism response to wildfire operations. Their work is not only operational but also highly analytical, helping ensure timely, effective support. Thank you for your dedication and professionalism!
🇮🇹 Ciao from Sardinia!
Here, I am meeting 🇫🇷 & 🇪🇪 firefighters pre-positioned in 🇮🇹 via the #EUCivilProtection Mechanism.
When wildfires strike, every second counts. That's why being ready before the fire is the only option.
This is #EUSolidarity in action. Not words. Action
A huge thank you to the heroes without weapons – @SESU_UA rescuers who travelled to France to support the fight against the blaze. It makes me proud to see such #EUsolidarity in action. Ваша відвага, солідарність і професіоналізм є прикладом для всіх нас. 🇺🇦🇫🇷🇪🇺

This.
This is solidarity at its very best.
The EU is grateful to every country that is participating in the Civil Protection Mechanism this month to help France and Spain battle the wildfires.
To the more than 300 firefighters deployed the ground:
your courage, generosity and dedication embody the very best of Europe.

For the first time ever, Ukraine is joining the 🇪🇺 Civil Protection Mechanism as a provider of assistance.
A 70-member Ukrainian firefighting team is on its way to France to help battle the wildfires.
While defending itself against Russia's war of aggression, Ukraine is also helping protect lives across Europe.
This is European solidarity.
Every day, Ukraine shows it belongs in our Union.
