The soldiers chanting "DEATH!" is really significant here. Eru originally gave death to humans as a gift, so they could enjoy their time on Arda. However, Morgoth twisted this, making man fear death, so they coveted the immortality of the elves. Here, they scream it out in defiance of Morgoth and his servants, saying they do not fear it, and that now Morgoth, Sauron, and the darkness they wield have no power over them.

This is mad. 11-66 and even some 132 goes on wood. Of those voltages, only 132 would use lattice. So they want to use 132 cable, damaging the landscape, and at 15-20x the cost per km depending on installation method and route. 🤯🤯
Wales already has the most expensive network costs in Britain. I should know, I live here… I can't see how "immediately prohibit[ing] the use of large steel lattice pylons" is going to do anything but make those costs even more expensive 🤷‍♂️

Whatever happens to the compute and model layers you know there’s going to be a ton more internet traffic. So investing in companies that charge tolls on internet traffic seems like a no-brainer?

Scrolling X for five minutes: Omg someone is building everything and has raised so much money, market is taken. It's too late. Talking to any large private or public company CEO: Uh, we don't use AI, working on a strategy, also how do we price agents? Don't even get me started on consumer. It is so early. Go build.

What @SpencerGuard @SapperGeologist @RichemondBarak @PalmerLuckey @traysartech have been saying for years is finally being seen on the battlefield. Subterra is a domain in itself, requiring expertise in many more elements than just tunnels: environment, hardware, personal equipment, maneuver, logistics, sensors, protection doctrine, and much more.
The Ukrainian and Russian armies are increasingly fighting underground, using old Soviet-era pipelines, The Wall Street Journal reports. "Despite the danger and the pervasive sense of claustrophobia, Ukrainian soldiers told their officers that they often prefer these underground battles to fighting on the surface, where drones pose a constant threat," the article states. According to Ukrainian military personnel, Russia is preparing entire units specializing in underground combat. Russian forces use underground pipes to covertly travel several kilometers, emerge behind Ukrainian Armed Forces lines, and launch drones from there. Initially, Ukrainian forces tried to destroy the pipe exits with artillery and airstrikes, but the Russians simply cut new openings. The Ukrainian troops then began waging a full-scale war underground. Inside the pipes, which are approximately 1.2 meters in diameter, Russian forces have set up machine-gun positions, sandbag barricades, and even living quarters where soldiers have spent months. The Ukrainians send in ground drones equipped with explosives and remotely operated machine guns. The WSJ notes that similar fighting could spread to other sections of the front line, and that Soviet-era pipeline networks extend toward Poland and the Baltic states as well. 📹: Khartiia Brigade

perhaps it wasn’t about safety
🚨NEW: The Online Safety Act has been a failure, according to a new report from Ofcom. Ofcom have found "no significant change" in children encountering harmful content since the law came into effect last July. This is despite the signifigant threats to free speech and privacy.

Shell, with Headquarters in Lambeth, made £7.4 billion in 3 months 🤯 This is a climate emergency 🌍 We are asking Shell to contribute to Lambeth’s climate resilience plan, in proportion to its share of global emissions 💰 It's time they helped pay to protect Lambeth 🫵

so i have been in the sf tech scene for a couple of months now, and i learned the games that ppl play 1. land a $3M lab order in 2 weeks, *26 = ~$80m as the annual revenue 2. schedule all orders to be signed in the same month, and multiply the best month by 12 3. sign $5M LOIs with friend's companies and batchmates. they sign one back (also happens at scale with large labs/compute) 4. buy github stars at 6 cents each the last company that swapped invoices with a partner reported $220M - and it's bankrupt now sad that it's a whole gresham's law game right now and if you dont play you just get downvoted

people who seek consensus in one thing seek consensus in everything. they aren’t their own people. they never were. they never will be. this is particularly tragic for men who must lead families during such turbulent times.
When I started my entrepreneurial arc I was all about everything being democratic and driven by the “voices of the employees”. Quickly realized that seeking group consensus makes for terrible startups. You need founder vision strong enough to just steamroll through even if everybody disagrees.
