Native trees are responsible for the high carbon density in urban natural area forests across eight United States cities 🌲 More monitoring & increased management activities may be crucial to maintaining the high carbon storage of these ecosystems 📊 🔗 doi.org/10.1111/1365-2664.14…

🐝🌸 @NutriB2 (#BiodivHealth) finds that larger bees benefit from less intensive land use, while specialised feeders thrive in heterogeneous landscapes. Effective conservation requires detailed knowledge of pollinator resources👇
Paper alert! Landscape heterogeneity correlates with bee and pollen diversity while size and specialization degree explain species-specific responses of wild bees to the environment. sciencedirect.com/science/ar… With @MichaelFilipiak from our Institute. #NCNtotlen

New paper – We found that the novel pesticide Sivanto (flupyradifurone) had a lethal impact on solitary bees at label rates. 100% of bees died within 3 days of pesticide exposure. Zero died in the control. Thread below shorturl.at/mzeVr

1/3 to 2/3 of crop systems studied worldwide would produce higher yield if they had more pollinators (ie, suffer from pollinator limitation). Just published by lab postdoc Katie Turo in Nature Ecology & Evolution - read it here rdcu.be/dMB0x

Fascinating presentation by Péter on villages, villagers and biodiversity in the Carpathian Basin. I suspect the situation maybe different at least in northern and central Europe, where both villages and villagers are becoming more urbanized.

Enjoyed starting a YouTube channel describing concepts in conservation. Have ideas for future videos but welcome suggestions of something interesting that illustrates a general issue. Also welcome ideas for getting this known by those who would benefit. youtube.com/@Bill_Sutherland

We had an interesting Dispute today at the CER - IEB related to invasion. 🦝🦟🌱 What should we research in this topic? Is everything scientifically interesting and useful at the same time? How can our research on the subject be implemented in practice? 🤔
