GrantorAI is live!🥳We collectively spend years writing grant proposals when we could be doing research. I built an AI that provides grounded feedback & writing assistance for grant drafts, so scientists can focus on science. Free trial: grantorai.com/ #AcademicTwitter
If you want to see an example of what GrantorAI can do, have a look at this fully AI-generated proposal, based on the grant call documents and my rough notes and thoughts on the topic. (No, I'm not really thinking about studying myocardial infarctions at the International Space Station 😊) grantorai.com/proposals/shar…
I also compared LLMs for scientific writing for grants. Claude outperforms GPT 4o considerably, but Gemini 2.0 Pro is getting close. I still like Claude best and have generated an optimized prompt for grantorai.com/ to help you draft your grants.
These prompts are becoming extremely lengthy as they include a lot of context and instructions. If you want to test it for free, be quick, as I'll eventually need to implement a paywall to cover the costs.
After these huge quality improvements, I'm now dropping some new basic features for grantorai.com/: You can now download, share (with a secret link) and duplicate your grant proposals.

One interesting test was to see how well these LLMs follow custom instructions to write in my local dialect. Claude and Gemini Pro were clearly best again, Gemini Flash switched to using the local slang instead of scientific dialect (yes, we have that too), and GPT 4o just did... its best try, I guess
This dramatic quality improvement allows the AI to do very useful "Recommendations for success" for your grant draft. I've found these really helpful as they are tuned to that particular grant and funding body.
For this grant, for example, you'll need to include a SWOT analysis. The "Description" and "Requirements" emphasize what the funding body suggests you should do, while the AI's "Recommendation for Success" offers practical advice that goes further.
I can finally dedicate some time again to working on my grant writing AI assistant, grantorai.com/ 🥳
It's really nice to see scientists using this tool to speed up their grant-writing process!
Today, I did a systematic analysis between LLMs and noticed huge differences in terms of output quality, and I have now switched to a better model that really extracts the essence of the grant requirements.

Kudos to @M_Cluitmans on showing that grant success is always accompanied by rejection during #CARIM2024 symposium. Great advice and getting #AI help! @CARIMMaastricht grantorai.com/accounts/login…

@Hartstichting Senior Scientist grantee @M_Cluitmans kicks off our #CARIM 2024 Laureates Session. Using electrocardiographic imaging, Matthijs aims to predict clinical outcomes after myocardial infarction.
Launching the public demo of my grant writing assistant GrantorAI.com!🚀Let's make grant writing quicker, easier, and more accessible, allowing scientists to focus on their innovative ideas.
My simple AI-based assistant is now live for testing. Simply upload the grant information (call text, submission form), add your own thoughts, and generate a first draft. Create a free account and let me know your feedback. #AcademicTwitter
Based on beta tester feedback, I've included some new functionality in my grant writing assistant:
- text formatting
- displaying word count
- custom prompt instructions
Send me a message if you want to test it, or sign up for the mailing list at grantorai.com/

Improving arrhythmia risk prediction after heart attacks: crucial for reducing unnecessary defibrillator implants. Thrilled @Hartstichting is funding this with a Dekker grant! I am now hiring a PhD student @MaastrichtU to use mapping and AI for cardiac risk stratification. vacancies.maastrichtuniversi…
Obviously I used an LLM to generate the first code. I've never created a website in Python but using Claude and some Python packages I got this running in no time.

Cool, I created a dedicated web application for this that works better than ChatGPT for preparing grant applications. It extracts all grant submission elements and also allows me to create dedicated prompts per form element, giving greater control over content and context.

I think this can help transforming my raw thoughts into a first grant proposal draft. It's not going to improve my science, but it may improve my writing (esp. as non-native speaker) and checking all the grant requirement's boxes.
