Deeply honored to receive an #ERCCoG to explore brain-periphery crosstalk in human metabolism. Big thanks to my amazing team (present and past), our supporters, collaborators, reviewers and
@ERC_Research. Excited for upcoming research - we're also expanding our team! 🚀

What does glucagon do in the human brain after a meal?
Using OGTT + fMRI + glucagon infusion, we found altered responsivity in hypothalamus and reward-related brain regions.
Interesting biology behind glucagon co-agonism.

Study found that post-OGTT hypoglycaemia during an 180 min OGTT occurs in 8% of participants with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes. Affected individuals are leaner and more insulin sensitive @MaHeUlm @uni_ulm link.springer.com/article/10… 🔓

ALT Infographic illustrating the heterogeneity of prediabetes, showing subtypes, pathomechanisms, complications, mortality, and prevention strategies. Includes references to glucose tolerance tests, insulin reaction, body fat distribution issues, β-cell dysfunction, and the need for more randomized clinical studies. Highlights lifestyle changes, pharmacotherapy, and bariatric surgery as prevention approaches.

Does every person with type 2 diabetes respond the same way to GLP-1 receptor agonists? Recent clinical data suggest otherwise. #GLP1 #diabetes @MaHeUlm link.springer.com/article/10… 🔓
Exciting talk by Hajime Yamazaki on "Beyond Size Matters—The Impact of Pancreatic Volume and Pancreatic Fat on Type 2 Diabetes". Honored to collaborate with him and @wagrob on this important topic. Stay tuned for more insights! #ADASciSessions

Super proud of my PhD student @JuHumUlm for being awarded the Promotionspreis by @DDG_Tweets. Huge congrats to my long-term collaborator and friend @wagrob for receiving the Creutzfeldt-Preis. Excellent science and new insights from both. Excited for the joined projects ahead!
Excellent session on sex differences in metabolism #DK2024! Phenomenal presentations by @SimonDreher1 and @susedi2009 and Leonie Wagner ( @HIMAG_Leipzig), excellent talk by @JuHumUlm on menstrual cycle's effect on brain insulin action & metabolism. @DDG_Tweets
Had an excellent first session at #DK2024! A big thank you to Jørgen Rungby (@Stenodiabetes), @Steph_Kullmann, and @CGarciaCaceres
for great presentations in our joined session where we discussed the importance of the brain in metabolism. @DDG_Tweets

Replying to @DiabetologiaJnl @uni_ulm
Thank you @DiabetologiaJnl for the opportunity to share my thoughts on human brain insulin resistance.
Deeply honored to have received the @EASDnews Minkowski Prize. Very grateful to wonderful collaborators for their support in our journey to tackle this complex issue.

Following our review on metabolic implications of intra-pancreatic fat two years ago (nature.com/articles/s41574-0…), now accumulating evidence of a causal link to pancreatic cancer. Proud to contribute alongside Hajime Yamazaki and all co-authors. @wagrob
