PHOBOS PD: The First Three Investigations - paperback now available. Have you got your copy yet?
I rewatched The Ghost and Mrs Muir for the first time in ... oh, decades. It was as good - better - than I remembered it. And Bernard Herrmann's score is glorious, much warmer than the better-known but rather chilly romance of Vertigo youtu.be/p3XBBwS6Y8s?si=wmHY…
What is the one thing you'd tell a new teacher about teaching Latin that no training course did? For me it would be that you will spend most of your time teaching basic English grammar before you can even attempt Latin.
Listening to the wonderful music of Joe Hisaishi @official_joeh is scientifically proven to make you feel happier. Try it for yourself ... youtu.be/tCNhBE6doak?si=4rRF…
Can't help feeling this would make a better movie than anything Disney have done with the franchise so far ...
Top tip for Halloween: a 12th-century vampire-hunter explains what to do when a dead man won't stay in his grave.
"Learning something new, something that will give you an intellectual challenge, something that will exercise those brain muscles in new and interesting ways, has got to be worth a try. You never know, you might just enjoy it!"
"If a man can be a woman, there is no such thing as a woman. That might not matter to you personally, but it matters to millions of women who don’t have the luxury of pretending that their sex doesn’t matter. I remain on their side." JKR in absolute beast mode.
I wrote a new piece about women’s rights and whether or not I want trans people dead. (Spoiler: I don’t)👇

"Facts by consensus, not evidence." Regardless of the specific context of the Gaza war (in which it is of course completely justified), this line is a damning indictment of our media and political classes, who have collectively abandoned rationality for feels and opinions.
This article is probably one of the most important I’ve written.
It gives a glimpse into what we—the Western world—are up against. It also tries to narrowly explain how the obvious lie of genocide is taken seriously by people and organisations who should know better.
The frustrating thing is that we don’t have a solid way of combatting this machinery of “facts by consensus—not evidence”. The lies are buried beneath multiple layers of circular citations, often by historically trusted institutions. But the source of those citations is based on false or distorted information. Before you know it, politicians are citing these lies as a basis for new policies.
It’s truly insane.
What’s being done to Israel is just incredibly visible. However, similar things are being done to us in subtle ways—moulding public perception.
I just focus on the genocide lie in this piece. But I want you to expand this process and apply to the Western world.
It’s terrifying.

Figaro is psyched to get started on some epic military Sci-Fi ... and so am I @ark_press
In 1757 the architect Paolo Posi carried out some truly cack-handed restoration work on Rome’s beloved Pantheon. He stripped the ancient marble from the attic and replaced its pilasters with modern panels. He also decided to remove the great bronze doors. While they were being taken off their pivots they fell on the master mason, Giovanni Corsini, and killed him. A simple lift to renew the bearing surfaces would have done the job perfectly well. Posi was rightly the subject of pamphlets and attacks for his incompetence and cultural vandalism.

Coyote vs. Acme was a good movie, but it would have been a great movie if the lawyer had been Saul Goodman. Missed opportunity for an absolute genius crossover.
Productive afternoon doing other stuff while @grokbot revises, corrects and reformats all my in-class resources for me. Welcome to the world of the future!
