Ken Sim’s big moral lesson here is that if you or yours have been dispossessed in the past, it’s not possible to dispossess anyone else. In completely unrelated news, Ken Sim has been unflinching is his support for the state of Israel before and after Oct 7
A whole campaign built around the slogan “Evict Ken Sim” to viciously malign him.
“Scapegoating the poor and homeless. You know, that was us.”
When Ken holds an “Evict Ken Sim” button, it hits hard. His family faced real evictions and financial instability over and over again, growing up as immigrants with little to their name.
And the family who lived through those struggles with him didn’t sign up for these personal attacks.
Ken got into politics so his kids, and other kids growing up in Vancouver, have a chance to build a future here.
That’s why safety and affordability are at the heart of ABC Vancouver’s campaign.
The full change we all wanted hasn’t happened yet. There is still more work to do.
The Public Safety Plebiscite is the next step on safety: stronger City laws against open-air hard drug use and a call for secure medical treatment, including voluntary and 100+ involuntary care beds.
On affordability, it means a 0% property tax increase, help for families and a thriving economy where people can earn enough to get by and build a future here.
Real change takes leadership that can face difficult battles and even brutal personal attacks that hit closer to home than you would ever want and keep going.
Because Vancouver is worth it.

ABC passed a bylaw so they could pay city staff less. How did that make the city more affordable for them? They promised to double social housing and instead they froze new supportive housing and scrapped modular housing for a gallery that isn't being built.

The “Vancouver Model” of Decriminalization Will Set a Dangerous Precedent for Drug Users Across Canada

ALT SFU News media release Reports of drug seizures by police rose during first year of decriminalization, SFU study finds September 09, 2026 People in Vancouver experienced an increase in police drug seizures during the first year of British Columbia's drug decriminalization pilot project, according to a Simon Fraser University study. During the pilot, police in B.C. were not meant to arrest or charge people for possessing drugs for personal consumption, a threshold defined as 2.5 grams. One of the goals of decriminalization was to reduce interaction between the police and people who use drugs, says Kanna Hayashi, co-author of the study.
So the CMAJ just published its look at BC's decriminalization pilot.
Police encounters for possession dropped 39%. That part worked.
But overdose deaths and hospitalizations? No different from provinces that changed nothing. Ontario's deaths fell 25%. Ours fell 19%.
We were told this would save lives. It didn't. @KahlonRav @Dave_Eby #recoveryovermanagement

The same pro-drug, anti-police activists who backed DULF's taxpayer-funded dark-web drug trafficking have published a taxpayer-funded report on undocumented drug seizures utilizing unreliable data from self-reports & interviews of individuals who were paid to participate.
The report's conclusions — there was an upward trend in police drug seizures without arrest during BC's decriminalization pilot and a significant association between police drug seizures without arrest as well as increased odds of experiencing an overdose — should be ignored given that the report itself indicates the data may be biased.
It is way past time for David Eby & the NDP to defund all drug legalization activist groups and redirect those taxpayer dollars to treatment & recovery services.

Looks like @chwknews has removed the online story about the 11-year-old who went to the hospital because she was allegedly exposed to fentanyl smoke near a supportive housing building. The editor’s note says “new information was received. Fraser Valley Today is reviewing the details and will provide an update once the information has been verified.”
I sure hope so. Far be it from me to question the health condition of a child, but I did have questions when I saw how this story was being exploited.
Many conservative politicians and pundits really went to town on this story, and I’m sure they’ll want to correct themselves if it turns out to be untrue.
I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR UPDATE @CHWKNEWS
