Anthropic’s IPO filing spends 69,800 words on AI’s risks to investors and says little about the risks to the rest of us
Anthropic’s prospectus does that job with unusual zeal. Even as the AI lab promises the possibility of an age of miracles , it spends 69,800 words , about 30% of its 240,000-word filing, detailing the risks of getting there. But the agentic age needs a second correction. The prospectus counts what AI could cost Anthropic’s shareholders. It doesn’t count what Anthropic’s products could cost everyone else, or whether that bill could one day land on those same shareholders.

NYC Council takes key step toward Mamdani's promised Department of Community Safety
The New York City Council will take a crucial step Friday toward creating a Department of Community Safety as lawmakers hold a hearing on one of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s top campaign initiatives: reimagining how the city handles violence prevention and responses to mental health emergencies. While creating such an agency was one of Mamdani's key campaign promises, it’s one on which he has yet to fully deliver. Political experts who spoke to Gothamist said making good on the pledge is important for the mayor, especially because he’s faced tough criticism of his handling of policing issues.

Meet Bruce Blakeman, the NY pol taking on Dem Gov. Hochul — who started campaigning at age 7, served as Nancy Reagan’s driver
The Nassau County executive’s first real political gig — as a volunteer for Ronald Reagan’s 1980 presidential campaign— unexpectedly landed him in proximity to the fiercely protective soon-to-be first lady. The unglamorous job of carting “Fancy Nancy” to fundraisers impressed upon him the value loyalty, discretion and political access — though the story reveals Blakeman has long been destined for the political spotlight.
