Most math programs claim to have an impact. But how can teachers and school leaders tell which claims actually hold up?
With Carles Aulés Blancher (@carles_aules) and Caterina Calsamiglia (@ccalsamig), we wrote a guide to help answer that question. 🧵
This is the first report in the Innovamat Research Series: “Does It Work? How to Assess the Evidence Behind a Mathematics Program”.
Reports that bring research on how children learn math to the people who make decisions in education.

💭 New working paper with the Innovamat Research Lab.
PISA '25 reports that the socioeconomic gap narrowed because top-quartile students fell most We test whether this may be reflecting changes in how the index (ESCS) that sorts students into socioeconomic quartiles is measured.

Ojo: ¿Espejismo en PISA? 😮
“[A] new phenomenon of affluent students who struggle”.

Excited to read this. We often focus on the psychometrics, but constructing comparable demographic measures over time is also essential for subgroup trend analysis.

1/ PISA 2025 says advantaged students fell more than disadvantaged ones.
Today we publish a paper explaining t's a measurement change. Measure students the same way in both years and the top-quartile drop in maths goes from −14 to −6 points. 🧵

Enhorabuena!👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
(1) New paper out at Scientific Reports! We found that infants’ event-related neural activity at 9 months predicted their executive function skills 4 years later.

(2) The brain-behavior longitudinal relation was specific to frontal theta, a higher-order marker of neural activity typically associated with top-down attention.
