This is the type of continuing race to the bottom and removal of standards that's unacceptable. They play in Black people's face and use our name to carry on subversion of the necessary education of our people. It's evil. It's not just there look at the rest of New York State.
Tonight, I was in Harlem to speak up for the Specialized High Schools and the SHSAT. The live podcast event brought together elected officials, educators, and activists pushing to repeal Hecht-Calandra. @AliciaHyndman will carry the bill in the upcoming legislative session.
Black students excelled on the test. There were 303 Black students at Stuyvesant in 1975. When I attended Bronx Science, 500 (15%) were Black. In 1980, Brooklyn Tech was majority Black.
What changed? Fix that. The test isn't the problem.
