Alysa Liu is figure skating's first mainstream, global celebrity of the social media age.
I spoke to the CEO of US Figure Skating and the director general of the ISU about how Liu is already changing the sport, and the ways they're already capitalizing on her popularity

A year since the Paris 2024 Olympics ended, where bold choices created iconic moments: from swimming in the Seine to skateboarding at Concorde. And all the while, issues were managed, reputations protected. JTA is so proud to be shortlisted by @prweek for our Paris 2024 work #PRWeekAwards
So the signs have been taken down for the Balfour School Street and the scheme is being abandoned, but without residents or even the school having been notified. Just extraordinary. How is this possible? @TrevMu10 @WithdeanGreens @BHDemocracyNews

There isn’t a single challenge we face today that wouldn’t be easier to address if we were part of the EU. It’s time for the government to stop running away from the issue & to put the future of our country & our young people first

Children in daily danger because the Balfour school street scheme has sadly failed (required volunteers to enforce it) and has done. Appreciate the failure should help the council get enforcement powers, but hoping to see wardens or even police while we wait please @TrevMu10
Cars three abreast at the school crossing is typical, unfortunately: here's a resident parked by the kerb unable to go work, as one parent blocks them in to drop off and another drops his child in the middle of the crossing itself. @LizBHPlanning @theresfowler @KerryPickettBH

Today the PM announced our new world-leading target to cut UK emissions by 81%.
There is no national security or economic security without climate security.
That's why we have announced this target today.
To protect future generations, deliver jobs and drive economic growth.
Blew a tyre on a pothole out at Waterhall on a road that is the responsibility of @BrightonHoveCC. Keep an eye out now that it's getting dark and rainy. Can you please point me to the compensation process @TrevMu10 ?
Quelle honneur to be on the Champs Élysées for the Parade of Champions, marking the last bravo of Paris 2024. It’s been quite the summer. Innovative, engaging and showing off this extraordinary city to the last. Allez les Bleus et vive la France !

In having a dedicated focus on sustainability, the BBC is making its sports coverage resonate more widely and also helping improve conditions for sport. Am a big fan:

The respect for referees in rugby is a big draw for parents. Whether documentary coverage of the referees or protecting them from abuse, @WorldRugby clearly a leader.
This is a breakthrough case for rugby union & should act as a deterrent as even those who hide behind an alias can be unmasked, reported and prosecuted. Great partnership with @signifygroup & our match officials.

This is personal for me.
I’m standing to be an MP in the city I love and where I’ve chosen to live for 25 years.
I’ve not stood or tried to stand anywhere else. Nor do career & pay really motivate me and, frankly, never have.
Making the change we need does.

Not just an issue for swimmers…
Great story by @seaningle and great campaigning by @RiverActionUK. Now likely to be referenced in race commentary heard by millions. And they’re planning even more discharges at Teddington @SimonDGriffiths! @Feargal_Sharkey theguardian.com/sport/2024/m…
In 2022, Southern Water discharged sewage into Brighton & Hove bathing water 100s of times. Hours after one such discharge in 2022, the Environment Agency found 3x the safe limit of e.coli at Brighton Central. So we lost Blue Flag status. Time for change. Time for @TG4Pavilion
Tomorrow morning at 9:30am @EnvAgency will announce that in 2023 water companies spent 4,014,964 hours on 477,927 occasions dumping sewage into England’s rivers, an all time record.
And govt does what exactly?
