Huge congratulations to Rachael and the team for the exciting new paper!
👇👇👇
Excited to see my most recent work published!
We have discovered a new NaCl hydrate that forms through flash freezing. This new hydrate could be present on the surface of icy worlds! Check it out below

🪐I am very excited to share our new paper, led by
@RachaelHamp
!
In this work we announce the discovery of a new dihydrate of sodium chloride, produced by rapid freezing of brine, that could exist at icy worlds 🧊❄️👇
@OU_STEM @Astrobiology_OU
pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs…
The discovery of this hydrate at icy worlds should indicate regions where subsurface brines have rapidly frozen, which will be of interest to upcoming missions like @EuropaClipper and @ESA_JUICE 🛰️
Congratulations to Rachael and all co-authors. It was an absolute pleasure to work on this with such a fantastic team!

Great turnout for the EPEC GA at #EPSC2024 - happy to see almost 100 faces (new and existing members).
You don’t have to be an EPEC Member to be involved in our events this conference, why not come and see what our community of early career researchers is all about? 💫
❄️🧂New paper alert!! 🧂❄️
Led by @ArolaMoreras, we explore how molecular biosignatures are accumulated, transported and transformed by sub-zero brines and salts in the Arctic.
It was a pleasure to work on this with such a great international team!

Congratulations to @RachaelHamp from @Astrobiology_OU team icy worlds for her first lead author paper! 🔭🪐 #enceladus #icymoons 🧊
🚨 NEW PAPER KLAXON 🚨
"An inorganic silicate simulant to represent the interior of Enceladus: by @RachaelHamp, @OlssonKaren, @SPSMars and @_vic_pearson has just been published!
Read it here: doi.org/10.1016/j.pss.2024.1…
Huge congratulations 👏👏

Day 2 of #BPSCLeicester!
Today we have a double helping of Europa from OU team icy worlds:
Alvaro del Moral and Lewis Sym from @Astrobiology_OU @OU_STEM talking in the Outer Planet Moons session about Europa ocean chemistry and biosignatures. Come and join!

#BPSCLeicester Poster session starts now! ⏰ Come to poster 65 between 6-6:45pm to chat about your hypervelocity or planetary environment simulation experiment ideas. 💡 We have a wide variety of facilities at the OU ready to help make your ideas reality! 🌟 #wehavestickers
And next up at #BPSCLeicester from @OU_STEM @Astrobiology_OU team icy worlds.... 🔭❄️🧂🧊
@_jessiehogan is presenting her PhD work using a wind tunnel to study ice grains in the plumes of #Enceladus..drop by poster 54!
Excited to be at #BPSCLeicester with the @OU_STEM and @Astrobiology_OU crew!
We have a few icy worlds presentations. First up! @RachaelHamp talking about the surprising world of cryovolcanic chemistry- this afternoon, Abbey Room
❄️🔭🧊🧂
Come and join if you're here!
Excited to be in beautiful Florence to speak at the @abgradeurope #Florence2024 International Astrobiology School.
Great to meet such an enthusiastic group of early career scientists in attendance! Big thanks to the organisers.

It's Friday but #AbSciCon24 is not over yet!
Drop by the Chemical Cycling at Ocean Worlds session (today at 10:00) to see Lewis Sym from @Astrobiology_OU talk about his PhD work on how #Europa's ocean composition could have changed over time 🔭👾🌊
At #AbSciCon24? Like salty ice and cryovolcanism?🧂🧊❄️🧂
Stop by @RachaelHamp's poster this afternoon to find out about weird and wonderful new forms of salty ice that could form during cryovolcanism at icy worlds! ❄️🌋❄️
Excited to be at #AbSciCon24 representing team icy worlds from @Astrobiology_OU! If you're here, come and say hi :)
We have a poster on Thurs and talks on Fri! I'll highlight these in follow up posts
🧊❄️New paper!❄️🌨️
Led by @SalzmannLab, we consider whether stacking disordered ice could exist across the #solarsystem
What *is* stacking disordered ice? And why could it be important for planetary processes? Read on!
Was a pleasure to work on this!

Happy Halloween! Nothing is spookier than the underrepresentation and undervaluation of women and marginalised groups in STEM, and my @SpringerNature World View for Nature Astronomy has just been published on the matter: rdcu.be/dpQgN
