I am so incredibly proud of Baltimore’s historic declines in violence.
When I joined the Council ten years ago, our city felt out of control. Death and corruption defined our narrative. Too many families were left to suffer alone and in silence. The next year we entered a consent decree with the DOJ for unconstitutional patterns and practices within our police department.
The public safety gains we are making are stunning. But most importantly, they have nothing to do with mass incarceration or zero tolerance. They are about Trauma-Informed Care, Community Policing, Group Violence Reduction Strategy, violence interrupters, effective prosecution, and investing in our people. They are about Baltimoreans saying “Enough is Enough,” reclaiming our neighborhoods and refusing to let anyone else tell our story.
We still have a very long way to go. I will not be satisfied until we are a truly safe city for everyone who lives and visits here. We have hard work to do to build an economy that lifts everyone. But it is worth taking a moment to acknowledge the way our village is standing tall. I love this city.

Reagan is rolling over in his grave. Iran’s nuclear ambitions were not curbed, and they have learned that threatening the Strait of Hormuz works and will undoubtedly leverage it in the future. Now, Iran gets to build brand-new infrastructure under this deal.
Before the war, the strait was open, Iran was being crushed by sanctions, and 13 service members were still alive. Now, 13 Americans are dead, families have paid billions at the pump, sanctions will be lifted, and the bombing has stopped. This is the worst foreign policy blunder in decades.

As of this morning, Baltimore has seen a 29.8% decrease in homicides and a 25.2% decline in non-fatal shootings.
As we enter the last month of the year, we are doubling down on our work to continue this progress into 2026 and beyond. One life lost to violence is one too many.

A new study, led by Karen Shen, PhD, MS, finds shifts in U.S. psychiatric bed supply: general hospitals & govt facilities downsized, while large for-profit chains grew. These findings raise questions about the quality of inpatient psychiatric care.
