Japan Government, BOJ Gap on Inflation Laid Bare Ahead of Key Policy Meeting
"We need to be cautious in making the decision and look comprehensively at consumer price moves, GDP deflator and factors driving underlying inflation," Kiuchi said when asked whether the government could formally declare an end to deflation.
"It's important that Japan does not revert to deflation," he said, adding it was premature to declare an end to deflation

"If We Can't... I Guess Not" — Watch Trump Give Up On The Midterms In Real Time
When Donald Trump starts using the phrase "I guess not" and "I don't want to comment," you know something wild is happening behind the scenes.
Asked if Republicans will hold the House and Senate, Trump claims he gets "almost 50% more voters" when he runs, shrugs off a potential loss with "I guess not," and reminds reporters that sitting presidents "typically" don't do well in midterms.
When pressed on whether he told Elon Musk to restore Starlink for Ukraine, Trump refuses to comment three separate times, says "whether I called or whether somebody else called, doesn't make any difference," and stares in silence before calling on another reporter.
Overnight, over $1.3 trillion was wiped out from gold and silver—with gold crashing below $4,000 (-$1.07T) to a 3-month low and silver plunging 7.7% (-$238B) to an 11-month low

Bank of America predicts 3 rate hikes on the table this year.
September.
October.
December.
I said this when most of the timeline was still fully priced for cuts and soft landings. The data never really supported that story. Inflation stayed sticky. The economy refused to crack the way people needed it to. Fiscal pressure never left.
Now one of the biggest banks in America is looking at the same numbers and saying the path is higher three more times before the year is over.
JP Morgan has been cautious on the easy-money narrative for a while too. This isn’t some random outlier call.
If this path is even partially right, the second half of the year becomes a completely different environment. Higher for longer stops being a slogan and becomes the actual regime. Buying every dip gets a lot more expensive.
So the real question is simple:
Are you still waiting for a pivot the data never justified…
or are you going to start respecting the rate path that’s forming right in front of you?
Hope is not a strategy.
The market can stay hopeful longer than most people can stay solvent.
Do not pretend the warning signs were not there.

Goldman comes out and says no rate hikes this year. Full hold. Nothing to worry about.
Meanwhile Polymarket still has traders pricing a solid chance the Fed does hike in 2026.
Those two things sitting next to each other is interesting.
The big desks don’t want to get caught leaning the wrong way if a hike suddenly becomes real. So the calm “no hikes” narrative keeps volatility lower and gives them room to adjust. The betting markets, on the other hand, are still treating the risk as very much alive.
They want the market relaxed.
They don’t want hike odds getting too aggressive while they’re still moving pieces around.
I’m not calling anyone evil. I’m just saying when a major desk says “nothing to see here” while real money is still betting the other way, it’s worth raising an eyebrow.
And honestly, that gap is part of why I’m slowly adding a little more gold. Not going crazy. Just nibling. Because if the official story is “no hikes” and the market is still pricing meaningful risk the other way, the uncertainty alone is a reason to keep some protection.
They can say no hikes all day.
The market is still pricing the opposite.
That gap is interesting.

The "chartists" are screaming "Double Bottom" at $72 like it’s a floor. It’s not a floor; it’s a trap door. You are looking at technicals while ignoring the fundamentals: The US economy is entering a depression that will make 2008 look like a picnic. Silver is 50% industrial demand. When manufacturing halts in 2026 because the consumer is tapped out, that "support" line will vanish instantly. This chart isn't predicting a bounce; it's predicting an industrial collapse. Sell the rip before the real crash starts.

Gold is on track to form a Death Cross tomorrow. $Silver is next btw 🫶
The 50-day moving average is about to cross below the 200-day moving average on $GLD, which is widely viewed as a bearish technical signal. This kind of crossover often marks the shift from an uptrend into a more prolonged period of weakness or consolidation.
While Death Crosses don’t always lead to massive selloffs, they do tend to spook traders and can trigger more defensive positioning. Given how far gold has already fallen from its highs, this technical breakdown could accelerate selling pressure in the short term.
It’s another sign that the momentum in gold has clearly shifted for now.

Gold is dropping to $2,900 by October. That’s the move.
The recent rally has been way too stretched, and we’re finally starting to see it cool off. When gold runs this hard this fast, it almost always gives back some ground and this time looks no different.
For anyone sitting in cash waiting for a better entry, just wait. You don’t need to predict the exact bottom. You just need to be ready to buy when it gets down there.
The long-term story for gold is still intact. This is just the market doing what it always does shaking out weak hands before the next leg up.

Japan’s four biggest life insurers are now sitting on ¥15.13 trillion in unrealized bond losses.
That’s $96 billion in paper losses… and it just jumped another 7% in only three months :0
These aren’t small players. These are the giants holding the savings and life policies of millions of Japanese families.
Right now the losses are still “unrealized.”
They can keep holding the bonds and act like everything is fine.
But the second policyholders start pulling money out in size, those paper losses become real.
They get forced to sell.
And when they sell, the damage hits their balance sheets hard.
This is the quiet stress building under Japan’s financial system.
Rising rates. Massive debt. And now the country’s largest life insurers are carrying nearly $100 billion in hidden losses.
Most people are still only watching the yen and the BOJ.
They’re missing this.

Japanese Yen is already devaluing hard. Just look at it. Intervention is not Enough...
They’ve been intervening, coordinating with the US, spending tens of billions, and the currency still needed emergency support after hitting levels not seen in decades. That should tell you something. Intervention is a band-aid. It doesn’t fix the underlying rate differential or the pressure that keeps pushing the yen weaker. I’ve been saying they still need actual rate hikes. This isn’t enough.
But look at who the current approach protects.
A weaker yen helps exporters and the financial side of the system. It supports certain asset holders and keeps the old funding model from breaking too violently. Meanwhile the working class in Japan is the one eating the cost. Import prices for energy, wheat, pork and basic goods surged while wages stayed largely flat after decades of deflation. Everyday places that used to be affordable started crossing the 1,000-yen line. Ramen shops that held prices for years finally had to break them. Some tourist spots went to dual pricing just to survive. A wave of independent shops couldn’t make the math work and closed. Others switched to cheaper versions or soupless options just to keep something on the menu that regular people could still buy.
That’s the real trade-off.
They will spend heavily to defend financial stability and protect the parts of the system that benefit from a managed currency. The people whose paychecks didn’t rise are the ones absorbing the higher cost of living. And now you’ve got a Super El Niño setup that can push food and commodity prices even higher on top of an already stressed situation.
They’ll keep saying everything is under control.
The gap between that narrative and what people are actually paying is already visible.
Intervention protects the architecture.
It doesn’t protect the people living inside the weaker currency.
Now zoom out from Japan.
What you’re watching there is not an isolated currency problem. It’s one of the clearer live examples of a broader process: major governments running high debt loads, choosing the path of weaker currencies over hard restructuring, and letting the cost of that choice land on ordinary people first.
This is global currency debasement in practice.
When debt reaches levels that become politically impossible to resolve cleanly, the pressure shifts toward inflating it away. The unit of account gets weaker. Nominal asset prices can still rise. Officials can still say the system is stable. But purchasing power is what quietly gets drained. Japan is further along that curve right now flat wages, higher import costs, everyday prices breaking psychological lines but the same dynamic exists in other high-debt systems. The tools are similar. The incentives are similar. The people who feel it first are rarely the ones designing the policy.
That’s exactly why gold matters more in this environment, not less.
Gold is not a chart-chasing trade here. It is one of the few assets that sits outside the currency system that is being actively managed and diluted. When central banks themselves keep adding to their gold holdings over multi-year stretches, they are not doing it for decoration. They are responding to the same long-term risk: that the paper claims and the political incentives around debt eventually conflict with the stability of the currency.
Most people will keep treating debasement as a background theory until the gap between nominal numbers and real living costs becomes impossible to ignore. By then the adjustment is already underway.
Japan is showing you the cost-of-living version in real time.
The larger picture is that more than one major currency system is under the same structural pressure.
That is the environment where holding something that is not someone else’s liability starts to look less like fear and more like basic positioning.

Corporate bankruptcies in Japan just hit a level we haven’t seen since the financial crisis.
1,037 companies failed in July.
That’s the second month in a row above 1,000.
The last time Japan saw two consecutive months like this was 2009 right after Lehman.
Seventeen years later, we’re back there.
Higher prices.
Rising labor costs.
A weak yen making everything more expensive.
Small and mid-sized businesses are getting crushed under the same pressures regular households already feel every day.
One large collapse made the debt numbers look worse, but the broader trend is the real story.
“Price-high” bankruptcies just set a new record.
While most eyes are still fixed on the yen and the Bank of Japan, more companies are quietly breaking underneath.
This isn’t noise.
It’s the real economy starting to show real cracks.
