🧡Thread: NO LAW IS ABOVE THE CONSTITUTION: Protect Electoral Transparency Ahead of Kenya’s 2027 General Election. 1/10. THE ELECTIONS (AMENDMENT) (NO. 2) BILL, 2024 Thread About the Bill: Sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Sen. Aaron Cheruiyot and Senate Minority Leader Sen. Stewart Madzayo, the Bill was published on 7 May 2024 and introduced in the Senate in July 2024. Senators passed it in December 2024 before it was forwarded to the National Assembly for consideration. The National Assembly approved it on 22 October 2026. However, it has not yet completed the legislative process or become law. The Bill is expected to return to the Senate to consider the National Assembly’s amendments. Current status: Further parliamentary consideration is required; it is not yet an enacted law. The Bill sought to amend provisions governing voter registration, inspection and revision of the register of voters. Key issues for public scrutiny 1. Public access to the register: The Bill proposed keeping the register of voters open for public inspection at all times. 2. Restrictions on revising the register:It proposed restricting revisions during the 60 days preceding a general election and during specified by-election and referendum periods. 3. Eligibility to contest a by-election: It proposed restricting the eligibility of people who registered during a suspension of voter registration to contest elections in the affected electoral area. Question for Parliament Would these proposed changes have protected the integrity of the voters' register without unnecessarily restricting eligible citizens' participation in elections? #ElectionsAmendmentBill2024

9/10. EVALUATION OF THE ELECTORAL PROCESS The Bill proposed requiring the IEBC to facilitate an evaluation of the electoral process within one year after a general election and publish a report for Parliament. Key issues for public scrutiny 1. Review of electoral laws:The proposed evaluation would have examined the legal framework governing the general election. 2. Audit of the voters' register:The proposed review would have included an audit of the register used in the election. 3. Assessment of election-day procedures: The evaluation would have covered voting, vote counting, election technology and the human resources deployed. 4. Review of election disputes:The proposed evaluation would have examined the mechanisms used to resolve election disputes. 5. Examination of election expenditure:The review would have included the cost of conducting elections, including procurement of goods and services. 6. Public reporting:The Bill proposed requiring the evaluation report to be published in the Kenya Gazette and submitted to Parliament. How would Parliament ensure that lessons from each general election translated into practical reforms, stronger safeguards and more accountable electoral administration? #ElectionsAmendmentBill2024

10/10. NO LAW IS ABOVE THE CONSTITUTION! As Kenya approaches the 2027 General Election, we must defend every safeguard that protects the integrity of our vote. Article 81(e) demands transparent, free and fair elections, while Article 86 requires accurate, verifiable, secure, accountable and transparent electoral processes, including the open collation of results. The proposed removal of the explicit legal requirement for IEBC to livestream results announced at polling stations raises serious questions about public access, accountability and electoral transparency. We cannot afford to weaken public confidence when we should be strengthening it. We call on Parliament to uphold the spirit and letter of the Constitution, protect transparency in the electoral process and ensure that every Kenyan can trust how their vote is counted, verified and declared. Kenyans, let us speak up, demand accountability and protect the integrity of our elections. Our vote is our voice, and our democracy is our responsibility. Free, fair and transparent elections are non-negotiable! #ElectionsAmendmentBill2024 #ElectoralIntegrity #Transparency #2027GeneralElection #KatibaYetu

Being a Kenyan citizen under this regime is definitely NOT for the weak! The National Assembly has approved the Elections (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which could scrap mandatory livestreaming of polling station results. The 13th Parliament continues to be the weakest link in our democracy, constitutionalism and the rule of law.Transparency and accountability are non-negotiable in a democracy. Kenyans deserve to see, verify and scrutinise election results as they are declared at polling stations. Removing this legal safeguard risks weakening public oversight, eroding trust in the electoral process and creating room for suspicion, disputes and potential irregularities. As we approach the 2027 General Election, we should be strengthening safeguards that protect the people's democratic will, not dismantling them. Parliament should be defending our right to free, fair and credible elections, not making it harder for citizens to trust the process. Our votes must count, and the process must be transparent, verifiable and beyond reproach. These legislators should be ashamed of themselves. #WANTAM

Happy Mashujaa Day, Kenya! πŸ‡°πŸ‡ͺ Mashujaa Day reminds us that freedom did not come easy, and we must never allow it to slip away easily. The courage of our heroes calls on us to defend our Constitution, uphold the dignity of every Kenyan, and demand responsive, accountable and people-centred leadership. Today, we honour their legacy by championing alternative leadership that puts people before power, prioritises public service over self-interest, and delivers justice, opportunity and dignity for all. The struggle for freedom continues through the choices we make and the leadership we demand. #MashujaaDay #AlternativeLeadership #InukaAngazakura

Kenya cannot afford policies that risk pushing us into a new form of neocolonialism. The Japanese industrial model cannot simply be transplanted onto Kenya, especially if it means undermining land rights, farmers’ autonomy and our control over seeds and food production. Article 1 of our Constitution is clear: all sovereign power belongs to the people. The President exercises delegated authority on their behalf, not to impose his personal views on what is best for them. Kenyans must have a say in decisions that affect their land, livelihoods and food security. Sovereignty means the people decide. #wantam

PS Chris Kiptoo says the government is struggling to raise enough revenue to meet Kenyans’ needs. But before asking wananchi to pay more taxes, why not cut unnecessary expenditure, eliminate wastage, and improve efficiency? Meanwhile, government officials are seen chopping life and living lavishly at the expense of the ordinary mwananchi. Fuel prices are rising, lecturers are on strike, healthcare is in crisis, and Kenyans are barely scraping by. Si mnaona vile "mama mboga"wanachop life kwa hii videoπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. Hii Bottom-Up ilikuwa mchezo wa town! #WANTAM @WilliamsRuto, @gladyswanga , @HassanAliJoho , @JunetMohamed ,
When revenues are tight, the first place to look is spending. Cut unnecessary expenditure, eliminate wastage, and improve efficiency before asking Kenyans to pay more taxes.

BILLS UPDATE... The President has signed the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act, 2026, and the Kenya Revenue Authority (Amendment) Act, 2026, into law. Key changes include: 1️⃣ VAT on Petroleum Products: The reduction of VAT from 16% to 8% has been extended for another 90 days, aiming to cushion Kenyans against high fuel prices and their impact on the cost of living. 2️⃣ KRA Funding: The Kenya Revenue Authority will receive funding equivalent to at least 2% of the revenue estimated to be collected by the Authority in each financial year, as provided for under the amended law. These changes have implications for fuel prices, the cost of living, tax administration and the financing of revenue collection. As these laws take effect, public oversight remains important in tracking their implementation, assessing their impact on households and businesses, and ensuring transparency and accountability in public revenue management. #EyeOnParliamentKE

Why fix what’s not broken? This government continues to raise concerns about prioritising self-serving interests over Kenyans’ welfare! It is deeply concerning that the National Government is forcing Murang’a County to discontinue AfyaKE, its free, functioning digital healthcare system, in favour of Taifa Care. AfyaKE already supports electronic patient records, prescriptions, laboratory results and telemedicine. Why dismantle a system that works instead of integrating it with Taifa Care, especially amid ongoing uncertainties surrounding SHA, including concerns over coverage, claims and access to healthcare? Healthcare must serve Kenyans, not narrow interests. Protect patients, ensure continuity of care and put public welfare first. Integrate, don’t incapacitate! #SaveAfyaKE
