5 techniques to spark your creativity. Here’s how I beat any creative slump: 1. Read Fiction Fiction immerses your brain in new worlds, characters, stories, and ideas. It exercises your ability to imagine – a key ingredient for creativity (and something so many of us have lost). Flex your imaginative muscles. 2. Ask, ‘What Would Not Happen?’ Invert your thinking. Write down everything that wouldn’t happen. The contrast often reveals unexpected solutions. 3. Stream of Consciousness Set a timer for 10 minutes. Write down anything that comes to mind. Don't filter out bad ideas. Let them flow. Then filter for quality only after the 10-minute session. 4. Alter your Environment Sitting down? Go for a walk. On a walk? Sit at a coffee shop. Science shows once you change your state (standing, sitting, walking, etc), the chemicals in your brain change too. 5. Get Bored Shut the laptop. Leave the phone behind. Let your mind wander. When’s the last time you let yourself do nothing?
