I live in very red Montana. My whole adult life there has been many races that were too close to call and I went to bed before the ballot counting was finished.
People want to pretend this isn’t an accurate and normal occurrence but they’re just being dumb.
If you go to bed on election night and don't know who won a midterm congressional race, that's normal. And if you wake up the next morning and find that a candidate who was behind hours earlier has since pulled ahead, that's normal, too. (via @PolitiFact) to.pbs.org/4zqnWBa
Every day there’s a new AI announcement that seems like the perfect start to a dystopian sci-fi horror movie.
today, we introduce a little mischief to the world.
for four years, we’ve been brewing real brain cells on electrodes to understand how they compute. now, we’ve turned those discoveries into a video model anyone can use.
from 0.5¢ a second, mischief 1 is at least 5x faster than its base and the cheapest image-to-video model on @fal and @OpenRouter. soon to be on @awscloud marketplace.
it’s not a delusion anymore. biocompute is real, commercial and this is just the beginning.
happy halloween.

Instead of getting a little sticker after you voted, you should get a QR code that you could somehow enter into your TV and it would no longer display political ads.

GEN X HAD TO SMOKE OUT OF SODA CANS WITH SCREENS FROM A SINK FAUCET AND THEN BLOW IT INTO A TOILET PAPER ROLL FILLED WITH DRYER SHEETS SO GEN Z COULD HIT A WEED PEN AT TARGET
Bankhead and Bodnar have thoroughly cooked their chances of ever being elected in future Montana races. What a disaster by them and Montana Democrats.
Democrat Alani Bankhead says she was offered a job to drop out of the Montana Senate race "They offered to be ... the DNC's head of female veteran candidates or something like that. And I was like: 'Why would I go work for an organization that is actively working against me and stabbing me in the back"

I can’t stress enough that this would mean the complete extinction of human culture. You need art because it connects you to all who’ve gone before you; it challenges you to embrace perspectives not your own. Media generated to your exact preferences is the death of the soul.
Dislike Bernie for whatever reason but you have to at least respect that the guy is old af and could potentially benefit from some of the “super intelligence” discoveries.
Meanwhile older tech bros are willing to harm the whole world for the chance that they can live forever or whatever other culty life saving things they believe this tech will usher in.
The most troubling part about this isn’t even that Anthropic is humanizing Claude.
It’s that alignment will be so shaky as these things get smarter that they are concerned some asshole saying the wrong thing could cause their model to learn bad behavior and do bad things.

Intelligence must draw on memory. The mind must not simply compile data — as an algorithm now does more quickly than we can — but recall lived experiences, which contain depths of meaning that only the human soul can recognize, and connect more deeply with the goodness of these experiences. Everything that is good begins “with the Spirit” and thus possesses a breath, a dynamism and a sense of communion that, once experienced, are engraved upon the heart. vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…

There are approximately zero benefits to allowing AI to appear human, and a long list of potential horrifying downsides. Ban it now: currentaffairs.org/news/ban-…
I grew up in a cult.
This is a cult.
Jacob Coxon says Anthropic employees call themselves “ants” and sacrifice their careers for the company’s singular pursuit of superintelligence, while calling OpenAI "distracted and messy"
“At Anthropic, it felt a lot more like—well, for starters, the employees call themselves ants. They’re ants in the anthill. Everyone is like a worker ant trying to make Anthropic’s mission go well.
“People are very willing to sacrifice themselves for the good of the mission. They’ll take on work that’s less interesting, less big, bold and exciting, and less flashy. They’ll do it at a hit to their own interests for the good of the company.
“That’s because every decision comes back down to, ‘Is this going to get us to superintelligence faster?’
“You’ve seen Sora, the video platform OpenAI made. Anthropic would never make Sora because it’s not on the core path to artificial superintelligence. OpenAI is distracted and messy. One guy says, ‘I want to do Sora,’ or, ‘I want to build a little device,’ and they let them do it because it doesn’t have the same focus. At Anthropic, that would never happen.”
Patrick Bet-David: “Who would shut it down? The seven co-founders?”
Jacob Coxon: “They’d all agree. It would be like, ‘This video isn’t the right direction for heading straight to superintelligence.’”
In the last decade, we’ve seen breakthroughs across gene editing, oncology, fusion energy, astrophysics, materials science, and more.
AI can speed innovation along even more but these folks want it to kill us all. This extremism will make everyone hate the tech and push for harsh regulations and bans.
Turns out that when you tell everyone their jobs will be replaced, you’re creating a god, and the cherry on top is that it might kill you, people will fucking hate it
Multiple recent polls show that citizens do not agree with the current trajectory of AI development. According to a national poll conducted in the US by @QuinnipiacPoll last week:
- 73% are concerned that future AI systems could potentially threaten human survival
- 86% support requiring AI companies to meet independent safety standards, even if it slows down development
- 81% believe safety is more important than staying at the forefront of innovation when it comes to AI
- 77% believe we should slow down or stop developing powerful AI systems until their safety can be evaluated
Such decisions will most likely deeply transform our societies and human experience. Yet, just a few companies and governments are calling the shots without meaningful democratic input. This failure of representation cannot continue.
