Rock-solid piece: Oliver himself appears in my upcoming "Confidently Wrong" book - as part of a whole network of hacks who use massaged data to terrify people.
HBO's @LastWeekTonight has a long track record of citing social science findings without the appropriate context, massaging them to support whatever point @iamjohnoliver is trying to make.

If JetBlue goes bankrupt, I would have to believe this would be the first time in history that the DOJ blocked a merger of two companies and then both went bankrupt. Great process. xitter.cf/Investingcom/status/21…

The factoid that '50% of marriages end in divorce' was kinda true decades ago.
But the divorce rate peaked in 1980.
Now, less than 40% of all marriages since 2000 end in divorce.
For college graduates, it's under 30%.
For college graduates who get married after age 25, and who don't have any kids before marriage, it's under 20%.
Anybody promoting the outdated, deceptive 50% rate has some kind of anti-marriage or anti-natalist agenda.
It scares young people away from getting married and having kids. That is their goal.

On Edi Rama’s orders, the police escalated their violence to another level today, attacking every protester, every citizen on the Boulevard. The order is clear: SPARE NO ONE!
This order to spare no one is being carried out with tear gas, toxic substances, high-pressure water cannons, and rubber bullets.
Edi Rama deepened his conflict with Albanians today by violently suppressing an entirely peaceful protest.
He believes that through force, he can make young people back down and force citizens to stay at home. The truth is that young people and the majority of the population are even more determined to remove Europe’s most corrupt Prime Minister from power.

My comments in a comprehensive article on the current unrest in Albania directed against PM Rama and the whole article at @unherd
By @arisroussinos
The street violence, which now comes in waves of lulls and escalations, has not ended, and neither have the mass rallies, which have now been joined by striking university lecturers and teachers. On Friday, I’d joined the protestors outside the Ministry of Education on Durrës Street, which has become the hub for morning protests, before a far larger crowd gathers later in the day along the government boulevard.
The police assumed a defensive posture, huddled around a water cannon whose nozzle twitched and dripped in anticipation of the violence to come. A line of schoolgirls linked arms and pushed to the forefront, daring the police to blast them away, which, after male protestors ran from behind them and began to throw stones, they did, first with blasts from the water cannon, and then with volleys of tear gas.
I asked one of the girls for an interview. “My parents would not be happy,” she said, lowering her Covid mask. It would be anonymous, I said. “Oh, OK,” she replied, “We are here to bring down the dictator Edi Rama,” smiling happily before running away at the next round of gas.

Yes try and imagine - if you can! - if leftists said they didn’t want white men in power. An absurd premise!
