10 things I’m learning as a young college baseball coach - a thread
It’s still early in my coaching career and have a lot left to learn.
I’ve been fortunate to learn from some great coaches and players along the way as both a player and coach.
Here are 10 things I’ve learned so far ⬇️
9. Remember why you wanted to coach.
Ask yourself:
Are you chasing personal success?
Or are you trying to build something bigger than yourself?
A winning program.
A strong culture.
Better players.
Better people.
Every coach has to answer that question for themselves.
But don’t lose sight of why you got into coaching in the first place.
10. Do it for the love of the game.
Lastly,
Think back to when you were a kid.
Why did you play?
What made you compete?
What made you want the ball in your hands?
What made you want to get better?
Now figure out what drives you as a coach.
Just because you’re no longer a player doesn’t mean you’re no longer a competitor.
Some of the best coaches I know are some of the biggest competitors I know.
The uniform changed.
The competition didn’t.
Still learning. Still growing. Still competing.
That’s the beauty of coaching in my opinion.

Welcome to the #AWREFam @FranklinBaseball ⚾️🐻
Franklin, Indiana: Where Grizzlies are built, not recruited. The Franklin College baseball program runs on toughness, and it shows in the details. Senior Dyllan Redmon finished his career 9TH in all time DIII HBP's.
Fans were probably confused when the Grizzlies started cheering every time he gets plunked, but he was chasing history, and that's the culture in Franklin. That's what this program is made of.
Every great culture deserves great tools. AWRE's 6+ camera system is now live at John P. McDowell Field. Pitchers get better. Hitters get sharper. Coaches get the edge.
Small school. Big standard. @MatthewAlter4 @JakeSprinkle19

ZCHS grad Josh Girvan has broken the Franklin College career stolen base record in just over a season and a half. The sophomore led all levels of the NCAA in steals per game last year and currently holds a .325 career average.

WATCH: “This mentality in our society where everybody thinks that you're promised something, and that life's easy is really false.
Because as you guys know, when you deal with life, there's gonna be some things that happen to you that you didn't create, and you still have to wake up the next morning, you gotta go to work, and you gotta provide for your family.
And this college athletics situation that we're in, that doesn't teach them that. And it's unfortunate. It’s not that I don't want them to make money, but man, you gotta earn it when you're out there.” ECU Baseball Coach Cliff Godwin after the Pirates avoided a sweep with a 3-0 shutout victory over Rice,
