Enjoyed this movie. I great reminder at how unforgiving mountains 🏔️ can be, but equally how powerful the human spirit 🙏 is. Tenzing — Official Trailer | Apple TV youtu.be/KkYCY5YR12U?is=KUor… via @YouTube

This is a rich post about #Hemingway’s #writing habits: “A man of habit, Hemingway does not use the perfectly suitable desk in the other alcove. Though it allows more space for writing, it too has its miscellany.” Thank you @parisreview for opening the vault! 🙏 #habits

Hi Jared! @BVUEjared Here’s a great summary article about the regional blood shortage. I may discuss it incidentally at the next Bellevue City Council @bellevuewa meeting within the context of Bellevue needing to become less digitally siloed, particularly when we should be looking for very low cost ways to nudge public safety and health. For example, why doesn’t Bellevue amplify actionable content from @BloodworksNW , @KCPubHealth , etc? (Yes, I know I drone on about this 😉, but hope springs eternal) kitsapdailynews.com/2026/09/…

Although this is an association study and doesn’t prove causality, it is highly suggestive, and it also feels right. I’ve always wondered if the issue isn’t so much loneliness but lack of purpose (which, granted, can be highly entwined with loneliness)? Anyway, nice share!
Loneliness may cost years of healthy life, not just happiness. A new study followed nearly 300,000 adults for about 14 years. At baseline none had type 2 #diabetes, heart disease, chronic #respiratory disease, dementia or Parkinson’s, cancer, #anxiety or depression. Loneliness and social #isolation were both linked to fewer years free of all seven conditions. At age 50, women who were both hashtag#lonely and isolated had about 2.5 fewer years without physical chronic disease, and men about 2 fewer. The gap was even larger for #mentalhealth: nearly 4 fewer years free of anxiety and depression for women and nearly 6 for men. Loneliness, the feeling of being unseen and unheard, weighed more than isolation itself. A healthy diet and exercise softened the effect of isolation but not of #loneliness. nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

Having worked with over a hundred thousand patients and their charts (both physical and digital) I will give you a serious answer to consider: There are many upsides to digital records, but the key downside is—necessarily—the central player of healthcare shifted from the doctor-patient relationship to the medical record—institutional relationship. This obvious observation rubs many healthcare organizations the wrong way (who all claim to be “patient-centric”). Unfortunately, by denying that reality, they have a hard time adjusting to these problems. Look, the technology within healthcare is unbelievable, and many of the physicians you will run across are superb clinicians, but these problems are going to get worse for the foreseeable future, not better, and the best approach will be a zen like patience. Anyway, good luck, and I hope you eventually navigate through everything OK! Bellevue needs you at 100% 😉
