I sent a letter to Chancellor Carranza and Mayor de Blasio today requesting that all school staff receive medical accommodations. It is common sense & good public health practice that medical exemptions be granted for staff who are also primary caretakers for individuals in...

Friends of twitter, the word of the day is betrayal. The @NYCMayor has betrayed families. The chaos many of us felt weeks ago because we are educators and their allies is now wreaking havoc in all families' lives. Check out this dipatch from a South Bklyn HS Town Hall

In an op-ed in @NYDailyNews today, Brooklyn Tech parent Art Chang describes the screening system for staff and kids correctly as "an honor system". Clean and scrub all you want-without an intelligent and effective testing protocol, there will be infections in the schools.

From a doctor on Rikers Island, neatly summarizing the frustration I'm hearing from many - especially those who think NYC should be able to pull off school reopening because of our numbers - about BdB's approach

New Tonight: Disturbing video from @WBFO in Buffalo, NY shows an elderly man walk up to police in riot gear. An officer shoves the man...he falls backwards, hits his head...starts bleeding immediately...motionless. Why did this happen @BPDAlerts ?

Here’s a bit of encouragement for you. My daughter’s preschool principal has been sending out a daily video of her singing songs with the kids, does a short lesson and then sings this song at the end and says all their names so they stay connected as a class. #LookForTheHelpers

Teacher in the Desmos FB group says: "It takes a heck of a lot more time and energy to prepare lessons to do online versus teaching in class." Has that been your experience? Any time-saving tips to share?

High school teachers - I'm looking for ideas. How are you checking in with students while closed? (Not how are you delivering e-learning, bc we're not really doing that.) What methods are you using to check in on your students' mental and social well-being?

Thank you so much @NickyHilton for lending your voice to @FoodBank4NYC's efforts to combat hunger during the #COVID19 crisis.
If you have the means, now would be a great time to donate to your local food banks. (Money is usually preferable to donating canned goods). Every $1 donated to ⁦@FoodBank4NYC⁩ provides 5 meals. secure3.convio.net/fbnyc/sit…

This week, writer Jay Griffith was one of several #ExtinctionRebellion activists given a conditional discharge & praised by Judge Nobel who said "you have to succeed." We are going to tweet extracts from her extraordinarily moving & profound defence statement.

The world is failing Australia now, more than two months deep into what will eventually be at least a 3-month-long, once-unthinkable fire disaster, which everyone else on the planet is already choosing to see as normal—even as it continues to burn. nymag.com/intelligencer/2019…

Climate is an incredibly urgent problem, but the risks of failure are too high to focus on optimal strategies at the expense of *robust* strategies whose performance is insensitive to uncertainties (i.e. multiple plausible futures).

We need a deep social conversation, at all levels of society, about what it means to be human right now, about our collective goals, and how to get there.
