This week, over at @stlmag, I got to chat with the lead singer from the surprisingly influential STL punk band Drunks With Guns! It’s a story that has everything: Danzig, studio mishaps, grunge, LCD Soundsystem, Noah Baumbach, and more! Check it out here: stlmag.com/culture/music/inf…

It is very funny that Guns N’ Roses cutting their show at Busch Stadium short due to a storm meant that they had to cut November Rain from the set

Watching The Prisoner for the first time, I’m kinda fascinated by how much inspiration The Good Place clearly drew from this show

It’s all fun and games having Criterion Channel 24/7 playing in the background on the TV until you look up and suddenly realize they’re showing Michael Haneke’s The Piano Teacher

John Darnielle drawing a connection to Rivers Cuomo as a fellow “failed intellectual” is really top notch stuff too

Delighted to learn that Yo La Tengo’s score to The Sounds of Science, included in this @Criterion Jean Painlevé collection, was recorded at the @wufilmseries here in St. Louis back in 2005!

Since @geese_band is back in the news after performing on SNL last night, I thought I may as well bump this niche nonsense I made back in October:
I spent part of my Sunday morning trying to see if I could make Geese's Trinidad sync up to the opening tracking sequence from Orson Welles' Touch of Evil, and it worked out better than I expected:

One of the great joys of seeing Wilco play in St. Louis is knowing they’ll always close with Casino Queen!

Really really dug this deep dive into Goose, following their surprise second release of the year! As a recent-ish jam convert, Goose continues to surprise and excite with every new release and show I catch!

Just saw Carrie for the first time and while I know the crazy Jesus/martyr statue is supposed to look like Piper Laurie, I just kept thinking about how much it looked like Weird Al Yankovic

It is objectively hilarious that there are going to be Fortnite skins from a movie adaptation of a Thomas Pynchon novel
Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film ‘ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER’ is getting a Fortnite collab.

An older couple sat behind me at a rep screening of Happiness tonight, remarking that they didn’t know what it was about. They lasted about 30 minutes before leaving, calling the film disgusting. A ringing endorsement for the enduring potency of Todd Solondz though!

But also, genuinely bananas to imagine going to a movie and not looking anything up about what you’re going to see. Right up there with the ladies who rolled up to Wiseman’s Menus-Plasairs not realizing it was a cool four hours long
