The TaxPayers’ Alliance revealed this week that public sector debt has breached £3 trillion. But that is only part of the story. What the Government is not acknowledging is the vast mountain of additional liabilities it has accumulated, obligations that will ultimately have to be paid. The real national debt is far worse, standing at £11.7 trillion.

For anyone that didn't pay attention in Chemistry at school like myself, I got Grok to visualize this. Mind Boggling to say the least.
Last month, we demonstrated high-rate alchemy: turning mercury into real, stable gold, beating CERN’s record by a factor of 10. Last week, we enriched isotopes in the world’s most powerful plasma centrifuge, beating the Soviet record that stood for 40 years. Now, we’re building a fusion reactor in San Francisco to achieve record power density.

So the latest ONS employment figures show "growth" without the hiring. HMRC payrolls −111k y/y to Aug (flash: −66k to Sep). Where the jobs are going: Retail −65k Hospitality −54k Manufacturing −29k Info & comms −32k. Yes, the sector "driving" GDP is shedding payroll staff. Vacancies 691k, the lowest outside Covid since 2014. Claimants +30k in September alone to 1.7m, the highest since April 2025. Private pay growth 3.0% vs public 6.3%. The survey says employment is +356k y/y, but that's mostly public admin & health. Payrolls are −111k. Fewer openings, more claimants, and the state doing the hiring. A narrow AI output boom, a shrinking private workforce, the state filling the gap. Funded at 5% gilts. 28 Oct 🍿 xitter.cf/ONS/status/21124236673…
UK GDP +0.7% looks like a recovery. It isn't. If we strip out a handful of AI-adjacent business services (programming +5%, legal, R&D, advertising) growth is close to zero. Five industries delivered about half of the 1.8% annual growth. Everything else is going backwards: Construction down for 4 straight months, private housebuilding −3.2% Hospitality −1.5% Consumer-facing services −0.3% in August Energy prices more than 2x a year ago, redundancy notices rising, housing activity weakening 10y gilt @ ~5.3%. This isn't a broad-based economy. It's a narrow tech services bubble sitting on top of a stagnant real economy, financed at the highest borrowing costs in years. If the AI capex cycle cools, there's nothing underneath. All eyes on the budget on the 28 Oct 🍿

GDP grew 0.7% in the three months to August 2026, following revised growth of 0.5% in the three months to July. Services grew (+0.9%) while production (-0.2%) and construction (-1.0%) both fell. Read the full article ➡️ ons.gov.uk/economy/grossdome…
