I watched The Wargame so you don’t have to (unless you’re keen on dark comedy).
My latest for @jacobin.
The new docudrama “The Wargame” imagines Britain responding to a Russian military attack.
Its cast is full of real-life politicians — often figures with ties to the weapons industry using the show to demand more money for the armed forces. jacobin.com/2026/10/sky-warg…

BREAKING 🇧🇷 Lula Da Silva has won a historic victory in Brazil’s Presidential election, defeating Flávio Bolsonaro and overcoming an unprecedented attack on the nation’s democracy.
I spoke to @laura_pollock_ on the @scotnational podcast this week about the wave of protests sweeping Europe and what’s driving people to the streets.

Why were Flávio Bolsonaro’s supporters told to put away their US 🇺🇸 and Israeli 🇮🇱 flags?

Neoliberalism has left the door open to fascism... it’s time we close it!

Governments can watch as the sector continues to shed jobs - even with new licences - while oil and gas companies work to maximise profits. Or they can choose to provide a meaningful roadmap for workers and communities; one that delivers a genuinely sustainable future.

A few thoughts on the announcement that the Jackdaw gas field development will go ahead 🧵
You'll hear claims today arguing we need Jackdaw for various reasons. Primarily some combination of energy security, perhaps cheaper bills and jobs. We should be sceptical of them.

OPEN LETTER: Sally Rooney is a writer, not a terrorist. Her books must be available to the public. Their withdrawal from sale, on the basis of ill-conceived and draconian anti terror legislation, is an affront to basic principles of free speech and expression so long taken for granted in this country. We categorically reject censorship - whether direct or indirect - and urge the government to change course, amending the legislation which has led us to this point of repressive absurdity.
With the British gov set to approve the Jackdaw gas field, it’s worth pointing out that “ending neoliberalism” isn’t concordant with handing development of our natural resources to one of the world’s largest energy multinationals and a public company owned by a foreign state.
I had the good fortune of reading Anti-Fascist Economics over the summer. It’s a cracker — and couldn’t be more timely! Well worth your time and out today wherever you buy your books.
The wait is over… Anti-Fascist Economics is out now! 🌹🌾
Writing a book is a very lonely journey and yet no one can do it alone. I’m so, so grateful to my family and friends who have had my back throughout this process and for all the guidance from my editors across three countries and my agency.

A clip from my interview with @KhemRogaly on the new report he's coauthored for @TransitionSec, 'Posturing to the World: The Costs of Britain’s Global Military and Expansive Strategy'.
The doubling of Britain's military budget is partly justified in terms of the public having enjoyed a post-Cold War "peace dividend". The reality is that when the increase was announced the budget was already higher in real terms than it was in the 1980s. - @KhemRogaly
