My undergrad, masters and PhD are all in different disciplines. All my 3 postdocs are in different topics. I thought it was a strength that I could adapt to any research topic or plugged in to teach anything. But this was my main weakness in academia and main strength in industry

Just think about it...grad school was the villain origin story for all of the toxic academics that exist today. During grad school they were either mistreated and continued the cycle, or grad school is where they were reinforced for their toxic behaviors.
