Today marks three years of genocide in Gaza.
The @nytimes has helped shape how millions understand Palestine for far longer.
We examined headlines since October 2023 and identified four recurring patterns in how agency, responsibility, and cause are framed.

“If those Palestinians hadn’t come and started throwing rocks, I probably would not have survived,” veteran Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine told Jasper Nathaniel after she was brutally beaten by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, according to Nathaniel.
Speaking to Ben Rhodes on Pod Save the World, Nathaniel recounted the details of the October 16 attack on Palestinian olive harvesters, how Palestinian villagers risked their lives to rescue Levine, and how Israeli soldiers subsequently shot a Palestinian man and blocked paramedics.
“Do Palestinians have a right to defend themselves through armed struggle, if that’s what it takes?” Nathaniel asked.
“And if not, do you suggest they lay down and die and let their village get overrun and let Heidi Levine get killed and accept the fate that the settlers have in mind for them, which they will openly tell you is to wipe them off the map?”

Spoke with @JustinSalhani about Israel’s “Yellow Line”. It is treated as a de facto new border: troops hold the land south of it and keep detonating homes there. It is as if the ceasefire applies to the rest of Lebanon but not to this territory. aljazeera.com/news/2026/10/1…

Despite Western media repeatedly describing Ben-Gvir and his “Jewish Power” party as “fringe” and unrepresentative of Israeli society, while conspicuously avoiding the party’s name and its ethnosupremacist implications, a Channel 12 poll found that his party is the most popular among young Israelis.

B’Tselem urgently calls on governments and international institutions to act now, using all means available under international law, to prevent the forcible displacement of Palestinian civilians, collective punishment and extensive unlawful destruction in Hebron. Israeli leaders are openly declaring their intentions, and actions on the ground have already begun.
Following the shooting near Hebron on 23 October, in which two Israeli soldiers were killed, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz openly announced plans to forcibly displace Palestinian residents and carry out extensive destruction in the area.
In a statement, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared: “We will apply in the cities the successful offensive model we implemented in the refugee camps.”
That same model has already displaced more than 33,000 Palestinians in the northern West Bank. Now, Israeli leaders are threatening to bring the same mass displacement and destruction to Hebron.
Implementation has already begun. Israeli forces imposed a cordon on Hebron and Halhul, while the Civil Administration began demolishing Palestinian structures in the neighborhood of Farsh al-Hawa. At the same time, Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced the establishment of four new settlement farming outposts in the South Hebron Hills.
Israeli leaders are openly announcing plans for collective punishment and acts that could constitute war crimes. These plans echo Israel’s devastating operations as part of the genocide in Gaza and mark a further escalation of its ongoing campaign of ethnic cleansing as part of the Elimination Project in the West Bank: the systematic dismantling of Palestinian collective life while expanding settlements and entrenching permanent Israeli control.
The world cannot stand by as Israel continues its assault on Palestinians, waiting for yet more neighborhoods to be emptied and erased before intervening, despite what we have already witnessed in Gaza and the northern West Bank. Governments and international bodies must act now to prevent these crimes and protect Palestinian civilians.

Important, fascinating, revelatory deep-dive from Zeteo’s @prem_thakker, who went through Netanyahu’s books on terrorism from the 80s and 90s & traces his influence on Reagan, Bush, Trump, & how Bibi laid the groundwork for the disastrous ‘War on Terror’:

While mainstream media pretend otherwise, Amnesty says is clearly:
“This is not a Ceasefire”
Over one year since the ceasefire agreement, more than 1,400 people have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza, nearly two million still need shelter, not a single hospital is fully functioning, and 1.4 million face crisis-level hunger.
Accountability cannot be swept under the rubble. The recovery and future of Gaza cannot be separated from a framework grounded in international law, justice, and the rights of victims.
The persistent failure to hold Israel accountable and press Israel to comply with the International Court of Justice’s binding orders continues to fuel the atrocity crimes on a mass scale against Palestinians.
Collective punishment is a WAR CRIME, forced displacement and targeting civilian homes are war crimes.
Refusing to use that language normalizes it.

Remember in March when US/UK claimed Iran fired 4,000km range missiles at Diego Garcia (thus raising the specter of Iran striking EU) US media lied and said Iran state TV admitted it (Times of Israel just made this up), no one ever saw evidence it happened, then everyone moved on

🇵🇸 Refeef Lubbad, a 17-year-old 11th grader, was shot and killed by Israeli forces Thursday as she walked home from school in the al-Faluja area of Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza.
Her name was Refeef Lubbad. She was 17, an 11th-grade student, shot and killed as she returned home from school.
You did not, and will not, see a breaking news alert about her killing. The New York Times and other complicit media outlets will not put her face on their front pages. But here, you will see her face and know her name.
May the day come when those who killed Refeef and our families are brought to justice, and when the names of journalists who justified, condoned, or dismissed their deaths as insignificant are displayed on every street, so their complicity is never forgotten.

They don’t hide whose lives they value and whose they don’t.
At least four Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes and gunfire across Gaza, according to health officials.
More than 1,500 Palestinians have been killed since last year’s so-called ceasefire.
