It’s beyond time, in my opinion, that resigning from the ticket on which one was elected, should prompt an immediate by-election. There should be room to lose the whip for a period of time, but again, there should be a point when they also need to face the electorate.

The use of "They" for the third person singular is not a new "woke" thing, it goes back to the 14thC as a formal form for someone in English. William and the Werewolf, for example, "Hastely hiȝed eche ... þei neyȝþed so neiȝh" (Each man hurried ... till they drew near).
