Major news!! The ICC has published previously sealed arrest warrants against 4 Taliban officials, who are “criminally responsible for having ordered, induced or solicited the crime against humanity of persecution, under article 7(1)(h) of the Rome Statute, on gender grounds.…”

Great and powerful reporting from @AlexCrawfordSky. This story of people living with war injuries is deeply moving.
According to the UN, an estimated 1.5 million people live with significant physical disabilities mainly caused by war in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan: A legacy of war
A human rights lawyer barred from practising law, now running a store and thanking the Taliban for bringing security. This is deeply problematic on so many levels.
Sky's @AlexCrawfordSky reports from inside one of the few female-run shops in Afghanistan.
The manager, a former human rights lawyer, is not allowed to do her job anymore. She has turned to the only space where she is allowed to work.
How women are running businesses under the Taliban
Under the Taliban, an 18-year-old woman would rather face execution than continue living with her abusive husband. She should be at university, studying and building her future at this age. The Taliban have stripped millions of women & girls of their rights, dignity and freedom.
Rare access to Taliban leaders reveals how an 18-year-old woman’s fight for divorce is handled under their rule. Read more: bbc.in/4xkZro3
An absolutely biased report! This is deeply disrespectful to the millions of women and girls who have been suffering and living under the systematic oppression of their rights and their very existence.
The terrorists & their supporters are celebrating their victory, while the women of Afghanistan are mourning the loss of fundamental rights, shattered hopes, stolen futures, & a deepening darkness. The world is merely watching and issuing statements. What a conscienceless world!
It's five years since the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan's government.
'Several people have told me to correct my hijab, put on my scarf, cover my hair', says @AlexCrawfordSky reporting from the streets of Kabul.

1/2 Shia Muslims in Afghanistan have commemorated Ashura under extreme restrictions imposed by the Taliban. Freedom of religion is severely restricted under the group’s rule.
Afghanistan’s Shia community marked Ashura on Friday under heightened restrictions imposed by the Taliban, with worshippers and religious leaders reporting tighter controls on religious ceremonies, public displays of mourning and processions.

"Whenever I speak to Afghan girls and women, their number one fear is not other things, but that they would be forgotten." They have indeed been forgotten by the international community and left at the mercy of a misogynistic terrorist group.

Miah Park, chief of mission of the International Organization for Migration in Afghanistan, tells @MattBarbet about the conditions that women and girls are returning to.
The UN migration agency says more than six million Afghans came back from Pakistan and Iran between September 2023 and May this year.

Today, we had the privilege of observing a crucial roundtable at the UK Parliament, hosted by @BGIPU and @IBAHRI, and featuring @ZahraJoya, @MeetraQ , and @EwelinaUO
The discussion laid bare the harsh reality of gender apartheid in Afghanistan and the Taliban's exploitation of social media for recruitment. However, the most critical takeaway was the urgent need for legal accountability.
We were briefed on the Genocide Determination Bill, currently progressing through Parliament. By shifting the power to determine genocide away from courts (which are largely inaccessible in these cases) and toward international institutions like the ICJ and the ICC, this bill offers a tangible pathway to justice for the Hazara community.
With its second reading scheduled for July 17 in the House of Lords, the passage of this bill is not just a legal formality it is a lifeline for recognition and protection. Grateful to all the parliamentarians and speakers for their unwavering commitment to this cause.
Hosted a roundtable meeting today with @IBAHRI @EwelinaUO on #Afghanistan chaired by @wendychambLD with Afghan journalists @ZahraJoya @RukhshanaMedia on women’s rights & gender apartheid & @MeetraQ on online recruitment tactics of Taliban with strong interest from MPs/Peers
It was great to join this important discussion focused on women’s rights, the system of gender apartheid in Afghanistan, accountability mechanisms, the Taliban’s digital strategy, and the responsibility of social media platforms to enforce policies addressing extremist content.

When people talk about Taliban lobbyists in the West, here's an example. The Taliban regime has done everything possible to institutionalise & entrench its system of oppression against women. It is no surprise to see some despicable individuals attempting to whitewash the regime.
Saad Mohseni’s claim that the situation for women in Afghanistan is “normal” does not reflect reality.
While girls remain banned from secondary and higher education and women continue to face severe restrictions and arrests over their appearance and presence in public life, the oppression of Afghan women cannot be normalized.

No place for Reform in Ealing! Great to see my dear friend @RabiaNasimi elected as the councillor for East Acton. Councillors are a bridge between residents and the local authority, helping residents with local issues, and setting community priorities. Wishing Rabia all the best!

Religious groups remain unprotected under Taliban rule.
In Herat, after a deadly attack that killed 13 Shia civilians, Taliban've warned against protests and refused to ensure their security. They don’t provide safety and don’t hold anyone accountable for the attack.
