The agbero situation is a multi-dimentional problem. The first step is: a government has to be elected outside of the agbero network that is not a holding to the agbero network, and then you will have the political will to deal with it... -Funso Doherty, Lagos State Governorship Candidate, NDC, addressing the agbero situation in Lagos State #LagosGovernorshipDebate #LagosDecides #NigeriaDebateConsortium

Love the fact that Funsho Doherty insists on pointing out that the current LASG and the existing Agbero Network are siamese twins.

Ramaphosa Considers Resigning As ANC Leader After Election Losses ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa has reportedly raised the possibility of stepping down as ANC president following the party’s poor performance in the 4 November local government elections. According to the Sunday Times, at least five senior ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) members said Ramaphosa suggested that he should resign, arguing that two successive electoral defeats under his leadership required consequences. Sources told the newspaper that he was prepared to step down alone if the ANC’s top seven officials did not support his proposal for the entire leadership to vacate their positions. One NEC member reportedly warned that his departure as ANC president could also spell the end of the government of national unity (GNU), arguing that he could not leave the party leadership while remaining head of the national government. The ANC's national support dropped to approximately 31% in the latest elections, compared with 46% in 2021. The party also fell to 40% in the 2024 national and provincial elections. Senior ANC members have reportedly urged Ramaphosa to reconsider and allow time for reflection, while secretary-general Fikile Mbalula has emphasised collective responsibility for the electoral defeat. The ANC's NEC is meeting to assess the results as the party faces coalition negotiations in several municipalities where it has lost its outright majority.

Wonder how much of this owes to a shift in the demography of the voting public.

126 seats now and rising
As of writing, the South African Communist Party is doing rather well on its first electoral outing independent of the ANC and is set to out perform many more established electoral operations and get over 100 seats. I believe that it will not be another Mickey Mouse party.

EFF going backwards in many wards. Turns out, driving out top leaders to create a one-man band isn't a great move. If the one man goes through a tough period, there's no-one else to front the band

Interesting.
The old South Africa is gone. Yesterday's South Africa has departed. The defining factor of the first 32 years, ANC monopoly, is over. A new South Africa is emerging, with many parties wrestling over our future. Democracy is alive and well. Now we will see. To 2029, and beyond
